Hi
Just done oil and filter change with a 12v oil extraction pump which I have not used before and it sucked out just over 6.5 lts which I think is good for extraction pump.
It only took about 20mins that includes changing the filter,I will be doing another in about six months so I think the little bit it left in would be ok.:)

That's pretty good. I'm lucky if I get 6 litres out when I do an oil change by gravity draining alone. That includes the oil filter too.

What pump do you have and where does it suck the oil from?

Hi
I do not know how to put link in but I got it from eBay the item number:301143402782.

It sucks from dipstick hole but you have to have your oil hot and make sure the pipe is straight,I left the pipe in hot water for some time then hung it in the garage with a weight on overnight.
I used a 5ltr plastic container and a 2ltr milk container to check amount

I use a pump to do my oil change as now when I take off the oil sump plug im not covered in a jet of hot oil no matter how I go about it and lose the nut into the drain bowl. Only about half a litre is left in the sump after pumping it plus you can use it in the oil filter housing and get even more out.

Hi
I have had cars where the sump plug is a little way up from the bottom of sump so you could never get any crud that is left in apart from taking sump off plus a lot of garages use the suction method now.

I did great on my last oil change - didn't drop the plug, didn't spill a drop of oil, filter came off and didn't spill any oil - everything went into the bowl - result :)

Then I dropped the filter into the bowl and f***g oil everywhere

My local main dealer uses a pump for oil changes. I have to admit I would prefer to use the drain plug meself as I feel I get the muck at the bottom of the engine washed out as the oil falls/drains within the engine. Pump is less mess so perhaps an option for me if I wanted a quick half service oil change without the mess. Could also use it after a normal drain if it's able to get more oil out. I would still do a normal yearly service oil change as that gives me the option to knock the bucket over anorl.

I suppose you could easily do that. Mind you, that IRD fill plug is fearsomely tight!. However, it is handy inspecting the drain plug magnets to check on the amount of metal 'dross' that collects on them.

I struggled with the IRD drain plug too until I used my head and got me rattle gun out. It's only a cheapy Clarke 240V one but it got the bolt out in seconds

always the old way for me sump plug removal twice per year, regardless of mileage which is usually between 3500 and 5000
