Well in our infinite wisdom my partner and I decided to buy s Disco TD5 to have for holidays and weekends etc. We found a good 03 example, which up until the previous owner had full landy service history. Not much done recently to it. However, it is all well spec'd and very straight. Ok, it needs new discs, the drivers door lock sorting and a few other bits...but hey its a 12 year old Landy.

The oil leaks is a nuisance. I'm hoping after a jet wash it is more obvious where it's coming from. Seems to be dropping down from above the power steering pump. Not this though as the reservoir is full and the steering box looks very new. Are there little banjo fitting with oil lines I can see? The rocker cover gasket, or breather doesn't look very clever, though.

And then the diesel drip. Back of the engine, dripping of the gearbox mount. Regulator or hose fittings? Do I see you can get repair parts for these on Ebay with new o rings for the part that fails?

Lastly the water dripping from the expansion bottle once warm.....not head I hope. Once the bottle is filled up and up to pressure if just drip out until it finds its own level, below the feed. Could this be a crack or new cap required? All the other fluid levels seem constant so I wouldn't suspect the head gasket.

So as you can see, there are things to do but hopefully once sorted it should do us proud.

Any suggestions to qualify my own thoughts would be helpful before my partner decides the run me over with it?:(

Are TD5's similar to the 300's in having injector bleed off pipes?
I've renewed the whole set on our 300 as it looked to have a massive oil leak which turned out to just be diesel "washing" the engine block and cross members.

no ,td5 uses an injector that takes its eed from a fuel gallery it sits through, if the seals fail fuel spills internally

i have recently repaired my fpr with a kit of ebay. it consisted of the diaphram thingy, gasket and O ring. cost me £40 but i have since seen them for £20. this was about a month ago and still dry.

Thanks for the replies.
XAT 44 would you say the repair kit is a up to the job then?
As regards my other queries, I hopefully will get a chance to jet wash the engine to check the oil leaks. Do the symptoms of my water leak sound consistent with my thoughts would you suggest?

2 years ago I had the same idea you had....buy a TD5 for weekends and what not. For a longtime it didn't work out the way I imagined as it spent the "weekends" being sorted out and various things being fixed. Its going well now though, but only after I spent more than I bought it for improving it...and there's still more to be done!

So on balance mate. Worth it? I keep telling myself it will be great when it is. Wish I had more time to play myself although my partner wants it sorted so garage may be an option. Now to find one I can trust near Cannok. Lol

Not 100% convinced its all worth it. The problem is where do you stop with mods / upgrades / fixes and at what point do you just drive it and enjoy it. I've 3 things left on my list before I'm going to stop fiddling with it and just drive it:

1) Oil ECU loom thing...so have the parts just waiting to get it done
2) swap from 18" alloys to 16" alloys with bigger tyres to get more "comfort" (the 18's were always to harsh) Have the alloys just waiting for the tyres to arrive
3) sort out the very annoying amount of wind noise around the windows. Not sure how I going to sort this....so this one could drag on.

In theory that's me done with fiddling...but that's only assuming other stuff doesn't break and other issues don't emerge, as with these cars its highly likely.

Don't think I will be looking to mod until I am happy with the basics. What have you done beyond the repair as far as modding? I am certain I will soon get itchy fingers. Lol
