o k, I give in, I now need advice, searched through the very usefull threads on here took notice, tried everything I could so now is the time to ask advice.
:D I have a very annoying droning noise coming from o/s. comes through the gear lever and floor about 2500/3000 rpm things I have replaced are as follows (all genuine landrover) clutch. front prop. recon rear prop.complete set of injectors. lift pump. wheel bearings (front and rear) engine mountings. gearbox mountings .etc etc. so, any suggestions where I go from here.

many thanks ron.

Is it definitely rpm related or speed?

Any other symptoms such as slow speed, full lock?

Harmonic resonance of panels is a possibility, my 109 sometimes sounded like a copter was landing on the roof until I lined it

Mine makes a noise when in gear but found that if I slightly pull back on the gear stick or forward depending on which gear I'm in it stops. Just another thing to adjust and add to the growing list
It's probably not the same thing as yours but if for ten secs of looking it might help.

many thanks for the quick response. definitely rev related. up to about 50 mph. reasonable, I could cope with that, but between 50 and 60:eek::eek::eek:pretty bloody awfull it will reduce over 60 which I thought might be somat out of balance so,, all wheels balanced hence the new props. bit of a pain to say the least.someone has suggested front cv joint but I would be very supprised if it was that because I would have thought it would rumble all the time.

It may be woth changing all the oils in both diffs, gearbox and transfer case catching the oil in a clear container and inspecting it for debris/bits of metal.

I had a knackered uj on the front pop that done the same thing but if it is something you have had for any amount of time I doubt it would be that,it would have shot its bearings by now!.

We have a 200 manual gearbox one that had an annoying drone just at cruising speed. Could not find what it was and we learned to live with it. However when I did the clutch I took the exhaust off to ease access, and found the top of the exhaust down pipe along where it had been seam welded had a series of small pin holes. Not big enough to give a blowing exhaust sound, but just enough to make a droning noise when it was under way. A new pipe and it was cured.

Maybe exhaust pipe or some other part of exhaust system coming in contact with body panels/rear axle underneath the vehicle.
Perhaps collapsed internals in a muffler that reach resonance at the 50 to 60 mph speed/engine RPM.
Something on engine or gearbox lightly contacting body somewhere.
Front or rear diff pinion shaft bearings worn lose or failing.

I had a similar rev related rumbling noise, I traced it eventually to the sound proofing thing that sits on top of the 300tdi engine. It was a bit mangled and was flapping around, so chucked it away.

problem solved:D:D:D:D:D:D:D (I hope) engine vibration due to two things.

no1. air leak on the inlet manifold. previous owner stripped a thread on one of the bolts and did a repair which eventualy gave way creating bloody air leak:mad: re helicoiled and sorted:D.

no2 for some reason I could not get valve clearances set correctly so after removing the complete rocker shaft found two left hand and three right hand quite badly worn so I have ordered a complete set up for tomorrow (genuine landrover ) we are just sat here wondering whats next:lol::lol: the joys of landrover ownership eh! many thanks for all the suggestions and advice.
