I think they have messed up something which was like a sculpture.
All the dents and marks was a story of the kids growing up with the vehicle. It's nice that they can use the vehicle now but they will have lost a lot of memories.

Should have left it alone for me.

I did think that but as it was it was sat in a shed and left. If they had preserved it somehow to be put in his museum that would have been a far better idea but I still found the resto interesting

same. should have been a sympathetic resto.

they should have fixed up the rust and bits n bobs to make it safe and usable. but they should have kept all the dents and scrapes and orig paintwork.

it now looks no different to any other nut and bolt resto.

lost a bit of history there.

Bang on the bloody money chap .......

Dents and worn paint are like laughter lines on a much loved relative .....

Bob's landy now looks just like a thousand others ....devoid of all that made it special ...
I bet theres not a sniff of "'Erb" left in it now either .

WHEN will folks learn to not frig about with character .

Trouble is, what should you do.....the bodywork was almost silver where the paint had worn of. The bulkhead looked knackered. If you fix the bulkhead you have to paint it. The same with the front Steel rad panel. You end up with neither one thing nor another....a vehicle with newly painted bulkhead and front panel and worn panels which look very odd in comparison. At least it wasn't sponsored by Britpart who seem to have a stake in every rebuild you see in magazines.

the family seem happy and there is now a mint series in the bob marley museum

i like the one his son is leaning on - it reminds me of mine :D

To make a resto look old isnt that hard, just takes a bit of lateral thinking
Some ideas
Paint red oxide colour, then body colour over the top, then sand, lightly all over to dull the gloss off, through in places to show red, right through to let it rust
or
get an arty type to paint the freshly sprayed bits to look old
Ive even seen people deliberately dent panels to age it.

Antique people call it "patina".

I must know some odd people

it seemed to be covered in some writing. i'd have tried to clearcoat it to preserve it. stuff like that.. adds a bit of a story.

Every chunch, dunch, dent and scratch has it's own story to tell, and they are what give our Landies their character!

That wasn't a restoration , it was a new build using maybe a few of the original parts!

Criminal!!

Mine has quite a number of dents in it, not because iI was too lazy to get rid of them, honest

Thts series did look a bit too abandoned to be kept as it was though to be honest
