Recommend me a recip' saw

I need to get hold of a reciprocating saw so I can cut and hack my defender chassis up and reclaim brackets etc to put on replacement chassis arms.

So I need some recommendations. I'm not looking to spend a crazy amount but want something half decent. Pneumatic/battery/240V - no preference.

makita 240v are not bad money, to get a cordless up to the job big money

I got Bosch recip saw awesome bit of kit imagine they all pretty good

Just reserved a Bosch at screwfix - collecting tomorrow. £99.99 but it's 110v. Battery are crap unless you spend a couple of hundred.

I've got a Hitachi 240v reciprocating saw, great piece of kit, I mostly use it for cutting up trees and branches around the garden but have used it for the odd bit of metal its cut anything I've asked it to.

Got a Stanley Fat Max, really pleased with it

240v Dewalt one on amazon with very good write ups. I'll probably be getting one myself soon.

Does the job.

Be sure to get decent quality blades , i find this makes more difference than the body . Cheap bi metals wear out rediculaously fast.

Bosch last for ever and a day.....but ££££

Metabo PSE1200 is what I have. Excelent build qualityt and really powerful. I'm slowly switching from DeWalt to Metabo, as DeWalt's warranty is useless and more of their power tools are made in China.

Metabo is the way forward!

unfortunately a lot of metabo stuff is going the same way unless you can get old stock

We found that a decent angle grinder with good quality cutting discs was far more useful when the boys did the 109" chassis rebuild and the 88" rear chassis.

I bought a cheap reciprocating saw off fleabay to do some work on the Mercedes bus floor, that is a fairly big job with wood and steel, but the tool of choice remains the cutting disc.

Well went to screwfux to pick mine up today, looked good, felt good, sturdy box but was 240v so left it there. Will get my 110v tomorrow and see how that goes.

This ..

Just as useful, especially for some awkward parts cutting, is an air chisel .. but you need a compressor for that!

Always good to recycle a fred - so I plan to cut out the rear crossmember and weld in a new heavy duty jobber with the legs. I want to use a 'cip saw for accuracy and wondered if anyone else has tackled this. Also, I keep collecting tools which get used for one application, what other useful stuff can I do with it once I have completed this job?
