Hello all,
Withams have some refurbed defender front axles part number frc8782 will these fit a 1983 110 n/a. I ask because I might get one but don't want wrong gearing ratios or too weak a casing for the vehicle, all comments and other stuff welcome if it helps me reach a decision. My swivels have gone and their is general play in the unit, and a need for new disks so this may be a cheaper option for me?

110 use larger pistons in calipers so caliper exerts more pressure,so to be right you should swap calipers, but no reason why 90 calipers wont work physically

james, thanks.Got to go and talk to the wife now, because she will only link this latest request to other expense, but I will swap callipers if she agrees.

my apologies for a wee hijack here hope you don't mind but just wondered how late an axle you could fit to one of these early 110's? would a tdi/td5 axle be a straight swap?

This was covered in a couple of very recent threads.
I fitted NOS TD5 front axle to my 1986 90 a couple of months ago, straight swop (even the brake-hoses) apart from that the later (wider) radius-arms are required and the axle breather is different (push-fit rather than banjo fitting).
I think that by then (TD5 I mean) the brakes were standardised as the same axle (c/w vented brakes) was fitted to all models.
