Here's a quick boxing day question. I was lucky enough to get a rather nice Moto Lita wheel for Christmas, however, when I came to fit it the thread of the shaft only protrudes about 5mm from the boss of the wheel meaning the nut only goes on half way.
Does anyone know why this may be? The number of splines is correct and so I think it's the right boss, it just seems too long.

I fitted MotoLita wheel to mine earlier this year, seem to remember I had similar worry initially but after tightening nut down (not excessive torque) it eventually settled as splines seated into each other. Ended up with about one thread protruding above the nut so I declared all ok.
You could compare depth/height of old vs new boss in spline area just to be sure. If not similar then worry.

Just in case anyone needs this information in the future, I called up Moto-Lita and they said the B45 boss (needed for my 1998 Defender) comes in a deep taper and standard taper. They sent me the standard taper but it appears a deep taper is required. I have sent my boss back and will tell of my updates when the new one arrives.

Sorry AJ if I may of mislead you, not aware of diff boss's, mine is a B45LR I just got it with the wheel, all from Mud. My Defender is 2000MY 90 TD5. Sounds like you got it sorted, or well on way.Cheers.

No problem mate, I gave mine a fair whack and it went nowhere so I thought I'd just call them and see. I got mine directly from Moto-Lita so unfortunately I didn't have the luxury of MUD doing the research for me! Fingers crossed there are actually two types of boss and I do get this sorted!
