Hi all it's been a long time since I've been on LZ
Anyway I've now got a 52 plate D2 auto. Over the last 2 days I've had a problem with the Auto box green warning lights flashing and the box goes I to limp more, more so in a morning when the car is cold. Once it's all warmed up and. After switching off and on the engine the green lights stay off and all is ok again. I did have a point yesterday were the gearbox when it was going into 4th juddered for a second but this has stopped.
I've checked the oil today and it was a bit low but was a ****ty colour so I'm thinking it's in need of a oil change and it's doing this when the engine is cold because the oil is thick.
Any views on this ?

mine does it if battery is run low ,which it is when its cold takes a few mins to fully charge then lights will clear with a restart

It's got a big lumax battery on that seams to be quite powerful.
The box seams to be fine once the box is warm after about 15 min of driving

After a second of so the fault I got when I read the ecu was a solenoid but it'd the filter is blocked or oil dirty would this bring up this fault, also it's only done this since the temp has dropped.
Once the box has warmed it drives as it should

I would be putting the battery on charge overnight - give it a good 12hrs; then let it rest for one hour. Now measure the voltage across the battery poles - it should be 12.6volts or more.

Re-install the battery and during cranking of the engine measure the voltage again and report back. This second test will show the condition of the battery under load.

Good luck

Dave

PS Change that ATF !!!

Right guys I've changed the ATF and filter and the gear change was brill last night.... This morning again green lights on until the box is warm . Gutted. It seams to be fine when the box is warm.

For fûcks sake just put your battery on charge overnight - what have you got to lose?

I've read the ecu and got this fault

"A1 solenoid valve 1 monitoring (short circuit to ground or over current)"

And the battery is on charge now but my charger is staying its full of charge

Hi

I 100% agree with Biglad (albeit a little bit more diplomatic! )

Ditto Battery charge .... mine was doing exactly the same

I charged the battery and removed/cleaned the terminals (its only a 12v system so 1 or 2 ohms resistance from 5hity connections is enough to cause all sorts of problems in a car)

bingo .... flashing two green lights no more

top tip is to turn the fan and radio etc off before shutting off, and then when restarting the car leave it to idle etc whilst putting your belt on etc for 10-15 seconds giving it a little blip and then select reverse .... I've learnt in the short time from mine that this helps reduce the flashing green light syndromes

good luck

cheers

Ok but the reason why I don't think it's a power issue is I has do e it whilst I've been driving for half hr and also if I start it in a morning and just leave it idling for 10 min it does it then. I'm going to check all the wiring and earths as well

This morning the green lights were is worst yet, 4 times on the M1

Ok had alook under the car today and found the gearbox wiring heaness heat cover worn away but the cables looked fine.
Also notticed there is no earthing strap on the gearbox so Ive fitted one and so far ok

My friend is having a problem with his at the moment it seems to flash when he goes from reverse to drive but if you turn the car off and on again it seems to work fine he has both green lights flashing and going into limp mode as well it doesn't matter if his car is hot or cold he has a new battery as well so its not that if you find the problem please post as it might help him out

Don't all d2 do this when voltage drops below 10 point something when cranking over. Mine did and you wouldn't notice by the cranking speed. Batteries don't like cold

Mudman - im new to Discos - but when mine started doing this from what ive read it seems to either be the XYZ switch, which i believe is the electrical switch to tell the Gearbox ECU which gear etc the selector is in or a low battery ..... which appears to be 90% of the time the problem.

mine was low battery / poor battery connections

Because cars are only 12V if you get just 0.5 - 1 ohm resistance across the battery terminals it can cause all sorts of problems for modern car electronics / electrics !!

Well I've fitted a earth strap on my gearbox and so far it's been fine. Not sure if it was missing or there should only be the strap on the engine but either way it's sorted
