Afternoon all,

I have just purchased my first Range Rover, a P38 DT, and there is an orange plastic can/tank in the boot with a couple of pipes leading down into the car somewhere. Frankly I have no idea what it is, maybe some kind of breather?

If anyone has any insights I would be very appreciative! Hopefully the picture I have tried to attach works!

Thanks!

Yeah it is clearly a non-standard installation but sadly I bought it at auction so cannot contact the previous owner to ask him/her.

you'll probably find the fuel tank is leaking on the car. so this has been rigged up to sell it at auction. to me it looks to have a feed and return pipe so its either there to replace the tank or to run alternative fuel.

its possible some one has done a twin tank convertion that could be your deisel storage tank meaning the main tank is used for veg. so it starts on deisel then when its warm switches over to the veg then for the lazt couple of miles gets switched back to deisel. makes it very cheap if not almost free to run.

follow those pipes n see where they go

Thanks for the swift replies. I have been filling up into the standard tank and it does not seem to be losing fuel, in fact it has been surprisingly un-greedy (is that a word?). I have not opened the can to have a look/smell in fear of causing problems to the car which has ran very well so far

You need to have a look inside I'm pretty sure I'm right its a simple and populate mod also check to see if you have a switch on the dash to flick it from main tank to that one

open it and smell, also if it had veg in the tank recently i'd expect a bit of a chip shop smell still :D

also if you open your bonnet, those pipes should be as close as they can to the pump, so look for any new fuel rubber.. or take a pic and post on here

Probably unrelated, but does anyone know what this button is for? It doesn't seem to have any function that I can pinpoint

Again non-standard but with it's proximity to the light switch I'd be looking for the signs of extra driving lights having been removed before sale. Or has a previous owner added front fogs but by-passed the BECM?

It doesn't have any front fog lights fitted but as you say they could have been removed; who knows but it seem the previous owners (or one of them) like to modify as the audio has been re-wired in the past which allowed me to fit an aftermarket stereo without having to make the changes myself.

I am working at the moment so will update you guys when I've looked inside the tank in the boot
