I am hopefully going to be selling my P38 to upgrade to a 4.4TDV8 within the next two months, i have a few questions:
1, is this a good time to buy to get a good deal or after the new year
2, would you recommend an approved dealer, private seller or any other motor trade selling one.
3, any specific dealers to stay away from.

any tips, advice much appreciated

4, Should i try to p/x my P38 or sell privately. if privately how do i advertise on here, as i haven't reached the minimum posts yet?

Ref buying the new Rangie, it all comes down to a few factors.
You will obviously pick one up cheaper privately, but as i'm sure you're aware there is a lot to go wrong on a RR.
A warranty could be good should you get one from a dealer but will they pay out should anything go wrong who knows.?!
If you know lots about them, i would personally go for one privately and save a few ££ but would need to take it for a decent run and check EVERYTHING works.

HTH.

Autumn/winter is never a good time to buy a 4 x 4, there is always a winter premium.

Yep.. If you're buying go for a 4x4 in the summer and sports car in the winter.

if selling, the other way around.

The winter/summer rules aren't completely true any more. As the markets become flooded with vehicles the prices come down. Vehicles will stay on market a lot longer too so you can barter harder.

My budget depends on if the car: ( am a little confused, keep changing my mind after reading different negative comments)
options are
a) 3.6 tdv8
b) 4.2sv8
c) 4.4tdv8
d) 5.0SC
i would like something from 2008/9 onwards - i guess i am looking at between c20-34K
I plan on keeping the car for probably 5 years and driver maybe 10K miles a year, once a month london to the west midlands rest is really weekend driving around town.

I have had my p38 for 5 years and love it dont know much about mechanics so wouldn't really know what to look for except the basics.
any help appreciated

4.4 Diesel engines are 2009 onwards

Would recommend those as they are very pokey and good on fuel

If you don't mind the fuel costs then the supercharged would be fun !

Later models seem to have less issues compared to the earlier ones

Never the less, check all the electrical items are working
A warranty might also prove useful

thanks, So out of the option of the 4 cars would you recommend the 4.4tdv8.
I am trying to work our running costs of a 4.4tdv8 vs the 4.2s8/5.0sc

Well the 4.4 tdv8 was the first range rover to get 30mpg !

Iv heard good things about it

Plus I love diesels so I would get it ! Lol

I have been told that it's the same to drive as the early 4.4 V8 petrol L322
Except it's twice as economical ! Quids in then lol

thanks, i was leaning towards the 4.4TDV8 the read about the twin turbo potential issue and the the petrol has ( can have) less issues. so start8ing to look at the 5.0. TBH, i dont really require the power, am no longer a speed freak, i enjoy the RR driving expereince and love the expereince i have had in the P38. I suppose i am looking for a better driving some expereince some extra power and refinement in the cabin. According to my maths, a 5.0 would cost an additional £800 per year in fuel- on the mileage i do thats looking at (10 around town and 18 on a run) compared to a 4.4TDV8 on (15 around town and 25 on a run)

But just not sure what may give me more of a hasslle free drive over the years from a 3.6 to 5.0 - seriously confused here, any pointers/steer in any direction.
