Hi all looking to fit an electric fan to my 300tdi defender rather than a viscous but not really wanting to pay top money for a kenlowe etc, just wondered if any of you guys have used a fan off another car like a 306 or something easily found? If so what fan?
Thanks

ebay 14" elec fan about 15 quid

Why are you looking to change? For normal road use there's not much benefit. The viscous fan is only really on when you need it, same as an electric one.

Not true, at speed, no fan is needed, but as the RAD is hot the viscous is still working flat out sapping power, the electric fan will be off.
At the other end of the scale crawling in traffic in hot weather, viscous is turning slowly just when extra cooling may be needed, exactly when an electric fan will be of most benefit.
Electric also give a marginally quicker warm up in winter and maybe a very very smal improvement in fuel consumption. Remember the viscous always turns even when cold, it just turns faster when hot.

When i did my S11a-200tdi i fitted a 19" citroen Xara diesel electric fan this particular model had twin fans but i just bought the one fan which worked fine but never used it even towing tbh but worth having though :)
