HI peeps

So a year ago i bought an 89 TD 90 pickup. She had an MOT and Tax for a year so a great base for a shooting wagon for me to use in the winter.

I got her home and for the winter put the dogs in the back (pics to come) and we were man and dogs vs the weather.

In the new year, I learned that no matter how cold a diesel engine runs, without water , it kind of dies!

So ...... I made a list

1. get old engine out
2. find a new engine
3. get it in
4. get off road again!!!

1. went very well indeed, I undid all the meccano on the front and the legend that is my dad leant me his engine hoist for a week (read 4 months!!).

2. Went equally well when i popped on Ebay and found a guy selling one of the 1st 200Tdi engines from the defender !! Not the Disco !!!

It fitted like a glove and was designed for the LT77 so it went in a treat. Until I realised I had forgotten the clutch release bearing needed changing so it all came out again!

Then back in with the help of Chris from Ridgeway land rover in Oxford , great technician, great lad !

One of the dog !

Oh yeah , back to item 2.....

He only wanted £250 for it , it had 100K on it and a new clutch !! And he drove from walsall to deliver it !!! What a legend :)

So , We go the engine in and ordered up some silicone and some metal pipework and last week we were all ready to go until dad put his foot through the drivers floor !!

So a quick trip to machine mart, cut out the old floor section, made up a new one out of some decent gauge steel sheet, and break out the welder (in between welding up my mini project and Chris' Vdub van !! ) and we got this .... only had brown seam sealer left so its held together with what looks like poop ! But its strong and continuous weld so I am happy.

Well thats pretty much where we got to , and with me going offshore next week for 5 weeks, I will have to wait for the MOT on this one and get to grips with her in the Winter when Im home.

A nice little project, only started in July but have achieved quite a lot. Ill post some more photos up as and when.

Plans are to get the interior looking nice and tidy with a splash of paint, new mats and some new pedal rubbers.

Exterior needs a new front bumper, A bar, the lights i have need fitting to the A bar and some sort of rack for the roof to take a heavy set of ladders without wrecking the roof.

And then who knows....

Billy b , whats involved in that ? Are you modding the studs on the lt77 or going for the r380 box as well ?

New engine mounts to weld on ? Modify the gear box crossmember ? New exhaust ?

Op you lucky bam getting a genuine fender 200 i saw one on gumtree today a mile from work with gear box. He wanted 950 quid bahaahahha when i stopped laughing i thought - fook than

Thanks guys,

It was the easiest engine change I've ever done! literally whipped it out and dropped the other one in!

Would have taken me 2 days all in had i not forgotten the clutch release bearing !!

I did have some issues with the clutch adjustment but some new ATF in the gearbox and a proper bleed of the clutch sorted that out! Bit clunky into reverse but hey ho !

Anyone know how much it would be worth? I paid £1500 for it with T&T so i assume a little more now it has the 200tdi unit in it??

awesome cheers, The underside is looking pretty good actually. Will jump underneath it this week and have a poke about to be sure.

I have gone and put an offer in for a house now too which will no doubt sap all my Landy funds for a while !!

I have been reliably informed that I want to build a kitchen extension too and a front porch and loads of other things like hanging mirrors and making flower beds  I now see it as code for "build a massive garage and buy more toys!" :D:D:D

Looking good! I'm in Witney with a blue and black 90 pick up so will keep a look out for you! :)
