I'm looking into installing a winch on my 110 Defender.

There are a lot of them out there, but this hydraulic power one seems like the best choice. Lots of power and simple system.

Anyone have experience with it?

lots of people here will tell you to go hydaulic. do a search for winches as there are 100's of debated which have gone on in the past. ;)

...sorry no exp. with these winches or any others!

Yep - no complaints. Line speed is slower than elec on light load, faster when loaded, easy to install, lownoise, simple, easy to use, works in water and mud, low maintenance, no run-on, powerful and low profile. Would recommend it with the ZF 74 pump upgrade.

Neither.
Winches is fer posers.

Git yerself a Tirfor -
1. Cheaper
2. Works when yer injun aint runnin or yer battery's dead
3. Easily transferrable between vehicles
4. Can pull vehicle in any direction
5. Can be used for many purposes away from the vehicle
6. Can be used in locations where yer can't get yer vehicle to

I've got a Pfeifer one, which is rated at 3.2 tonnes and uses a 20mm cable.
In reality, you could get away with a 1.6 tonner (which is much lighter!) in 99% of cases.
Mine cost me £300 brand spankin new.
See my post in the "Working the Land" thread for pics.

£999 thats a lot of money plus
£250 for the Winch Bumper plus
Fitting what £150 ?

I like posing but thats a lot of money

Nah - a bargain in the context of the use it gets and the reliability it offers. I use it as much for preventative winching as much as recovery.

Elec needs a winch bumper, split charge, battery, - so when totted up it cost about about £300 more than a quality electric winch.

im with widget on that one... a good warn or superwinch with bottom range bumper your looking at £650-£750 min. plus 100 for optima or sim. deep cycle batt. 50 for split charge system, more if you want an elecy gizmo managment system (+100) so your upto 850-950 all ready.

if your going for a lecy in the end go with either a superwinch or warn.
