Thank you for reading this first before I start my rant

The problem started in 8th January my partner was driving on the motorway when then freelander cut out the AA sent him to a garage where they stated the fuel filter and fuel rail pressure sensor needed replacing so this was done. 28th January it started doing it again so went to a garage and they replaced the in-line fuel pump (AA repair cover paid for this). Now he has given me the car to use on Friday I went to do the shopping when I had driving around and the car had warmed up it started juddering when idle when I went to pull away there was nothing when I pushed down on the accelerator, then all of a sudden I had power so I idled home and called the AA out their machine did not pick up any fault codes so he suggested going to Halfords and get their diagnostic machine on it suggesting it might be an injector. Bearing in mind he kept revving it and it starting having blue smoke and stinking (never had that before) next morning started fine drove to Halfords they sent me to another garage and I literally limped there and it konked out outside, diagnostic machine pulled up fault for fuel rail pressure sensor they advised going to a landy specialist, so one more try in another garage they got the same fault but stated it could be the main fuel pump (by the way haven't got a Landy specialist nearby) The EGR has been cleaned and working fine. Please can anyone give any suggestions before we waste anymore money,

Then come back over here and tell us a bit more about the vehicle! Ie the year and engine etc.
And also where you are cuz so one might be able to recommend a garage...

Its a Freelander Sport TD4 05 plate I am in Weymouth Dorset. Partner has had a right go at the AA tonight as they said if its the in-line fuel pump that they have paid for then it needs to go back to the garage that replaced after lots of debating because it was repaired up in Darlington and the car will not make it they have told us to take it to mechenzies in Weymouth but am not holding out on it, that is why I am asking for ideas
 
So we instantly know the first diagnosis was incorrect if the initial fault was low side pressure sensor plausibility. Low pressure sensor plausibility fault, is what will flag when the lowside fuel pump stops working and its common for people to just replace the sensor if they aren't familiar with the vehicle.

This sounds like it was rectified on the second attempt though, when the low side pump was replaced. Was it a genuine part pump? There are reports of low quality non genuine ones available (I think there are threads on here about it), so it could be a recurring issue.

If the fault code has changed, then its possible the issue has changed. If initially you were getting 'low side pressure sensor plausibility' and your now getting 'fuel rail pressure plausibility', then they could have just touched something in the engine bay and caused an additional issue by accident.

For the fault your describing it sounds like it could be a loose connection on the high pressure fuel rail sensor. There is a bulletin which describes the fault as causing 'poor starting' and 'inconsistent idling' possibly with 'lack of power'. The fix is an overlay with a new HP fuel rail connector and a new fuel rail sensor, although the cheapest option is try the overlay first and see if it fixes it. If not then fit the sensor.

That is definitely what I would start with. I assume they brought up injectors as they are quite common on the Td4 for causing issues, although it normally starts with poor starting from cold rather than a misfire.

But my first thoughts were fuel contamination and or blocked fuel filter.
When was the filter last changed and the sedimenter drained ?
 
:5bhurray:Hi sorry its been a while the car has just come out of the garage and the problem looks like it has been solved, they re-looked at the fuel pressure rail and the wires were there were frayed and bare, so they cut the wires back and added new wires my baby is running very smooth even when idling so fingers crossed this was the problem no errors are appearing. they did state that these had been messed with before and bodged hope this might help someone else in the future and hopefully I don't have to say in a few weeks that this wasn't the problem happy lady at the moment
