The fecking windscreen shattered!

Nice day I thought, why not clean the car?

As soon as the water hit the glass a god awful grating CRUNCH noise signalled the death of my windscreen :mad::mad: Angry doesnt even begin to cover it, lovely £75 glass claim excess now, and they reckon they cant get it done til sometime next week at the earliest.

Looks like one halfs been in the shade and the other in the sun........You throwing water on it just ****ed it right off.....:(

I was using hot water though, so I dont understand how this happened! :( I thought shattering windscreens was an old wives tale of pouring hot water on frozen windscreens in the winter!

You are supposed to throw the water and keep hold of the bucket, being a Freelander owner you might not know that:rolleyes:

This is a seriously irresponsible post. Its just going to give the Tratter lot more fun.

1. The windscreen broke on contact with water.
2. You used hot water to clean it with, please edit and change it to Karcher.

At least you didn't say what brand of shampoo you used.

PS Which brand do you use? Mine is leaving the wiper blades with split ends.

Oh dear.... welcome to Landy Zone. Help and advice if you can come up with a problem that no-one has seen before. Sympathy? Never....

A lot of people are jumping to the conclusion that you threw very hot water at it and it is thermal shock that has caused the crack. I would ask - when you threw the bucket of water at the car did you do it in a way that spread the water over a large area or did 2 gallons (i.e. 9 Kilos) hit the windscreen in one go?

Very irritating experience I know but I doubt it will happen again...

Richard

(PS the hard water and split ends comments were very funny tho...)

Just regular hot tap water, hardly scalding hot, and it was a bloody hot day outside anyway, I dare say the glass was actually hotter than the hot water, all I did was pour it on the roof and let it run down over the rest of the car, didnt even actuall chuck it at the glass :(

Im not expecting sympathy, just trying to see the funny side in something thats royally ****ed me off! :D

If the water run down oft the roof I don't see why it cracked unless it was weak and this was the final straw. Perhaps the top layer was already damaged of fractured.

Must have had a stone chip there already surely. Mine did it the other day from a tiny stone chip I hadn't noticed. Parked up it was fine and got in the car again and it had a foot long crack in it. I'm sure it's somthing to do with the weather

I am sure we have all experienced it at some point. I been in a work van before and it's -4 outside. I had the heater on flat out because I was cold and wet and the windows were steaming up, I could sit and watch the crack get bigger!
