Hi guys,

I wondered what proportion of you have used special tracks without causing damage to the axles and transmission. Just bought some second hand ones, they're in decent nick but not new.

Just wondered if i take it steady off roading will they be fine?

I use 285/75-16 on mine, and yes I have them balanced, I use mine quite hard off road and first 18 months did 3 diffs and 1 rear half shaft, then put air lockers in and done 2 rear shafts since and blew a cv ( was my fault was in deep mud and on full lock )
If your steady with them you shouldn't find many problems, a lot of my mates have no probs with them on 265's, hope this helps Tim

I had 265 75 16 and never had a a problem in the 18months I had them. But them again I pride myself on being able to actually drive rather then just POWER!

I have 285/75 special tracks. They are unbalanceable because they are so far out, and absolutely horrendous on the road as a result. Seems to be luck of the draw whether or not you get a set that can be balanced.

Off road I used to break stuff left right and centre with them on my old 90 which I used hard at pay and plays.
I've now done about 8 pay and plays and 2 winch challenges with them on my new 90 (standard axles apart from a 4 pin rear diff) and not had a problem, I think because I have adopted a slightly more sensible driving style off road.
Basically, if you drive like a muppet with them (especially 285s) then you're going to break stuff.

I have more aggressive tyres in a larger size than above on locked axles and indeed the front is still std 10 spline shafts. I don't drive hard there is usully little need to nowadays and have only broken one front shaft.

I am new to special tracks but I don't drive like a muppet off road when I had other tyres and don't plan on driving like a muppet with these either but I think in some cases it could be the con'd of the diffs aswell meaning with these tyres and good diffs you may break an half shaft, good half shafts and worn diff you will probably blow a diff, good diff and half shafts you will probably blow the gearbox so yes something will break but I just tend to be carefull have a go once and if I can't get up what ever then I will leave it, the trouble with some peeps when off road they are not happy till they break something to me its just not worth it as I have to drive home which could be 100 miles or so away :)
