Just bought a 2003 56k 2.5 freebie, lovely wagon but:

Slight vibration/grinding coming through accelerator pedal and vehicle is very stiff on reversing with a hard lock. From what I have read here VCU replacement cant be done for less than £400 which I don't have, so I have bought an IRD blanking plate. Can anyone recommend someone near Cambridge who can do this job for me at a fair price I understand its a 45-60 min job.

Dave

Alas no, but I know a limited amount of information on a guy called Dave who stays in the vicinity of Cambridge who could probably do it for nothing;)

haha - nice one...........I have no tools and no way of propping the vehicle up either!

And it's normally polite to introduce your self in the relevant section before comming onto a forum and expecting Somone to rush over and help?

Look, I read up about the problem at hand (rather coming onto the forum and just bleating about symptoms which is usually what newbies do that upsets senior members in other forums), pretty much diagnosed the issue myself, ordered the parts, wrote a hello in the introductory section, found the appropriate forum section and politely asked if there was anyone in the vicinity wanting a paid job.

For the record, I don't expect anyone to 'rush over and help', nor am I too lazy to do it myself, I simply am in a temporary lodgings without tools hence the offer to pay someone with the relevant expertise to do the work. Geez, tough crowd!

There's more of an introduction in this post by far than your post in the intro section so you're getting there............well done :p:D

so any way A1 autocentre took off the prop shaft for me - completely different drive now, seems to have more power and of course no stiffness when cornering tightly. Reccomended simple modification for anyone who wants to avoid a costly VCU replacement....

Bit pointless having a 4x2 though int it??? Might as well buy something reliable like a focus or a zafira.
