i'd agree, the auto I already have is a very civilised ride, shame I cant use that, but I did buy it for the wife (sort of):D
would you say that manuals have more issues than auto's, they have a duel mass fly wheel don't they ?

I have looked at a few and i'm quite interested,
but I've got to understand the TD5 a fair bit after a marathon session or two on the one I have,
already have a nanocom for it and getting a little extra power out of it is quite easy.
got thrown in at the deep end as this was my first diesel, always been a petrol head before.
but I won't discount the 300.

just got to sell a couple of bikes now.

Although I've driven quite a few manuals and I know lots of people favour them my own is an auto which have used for day to day driving, gentle off roading (only once though cos I know how expensive the front bumpers are :D) and quite a bit of towing. Yes they do have a dual mass flywheel but I don't think this is a common problem, wear in the bias plate is common but an easy fix. Hope this helps.

i'd like to try my had at a bit of green laning :eek:

I've not done any off road before and the D2 I've got is the family car so that's out.

I fancied a TD5 90 station wagon but don't have the budget, so i'm looking at another D2 TD5. it will be my daily drive to work and I need to at least have a back seat for the kids from time to time.

biggest question I've got at the moment is should I go manual or auto ?

I thought it would have been manual for off road ? as i've never seen an auto defender before, but the more I look, the more auto D2's I've seen used.

is manual a no brainer or have I got no brains :confused:

think I need to sell the two bikes and just buy the best I can find in my budget, manual or auto.

I noticed both of yours are auto's so it puts my mind at rest that either are more than capable.

looked at your in for sale, nice, lots of things already done that I would like to do, but i'm looking at D2's due two the extra boot space too, was made redundant last year and the new job isn't up to the old one, so the welder and geny will be going in the boot from time to time and I don't want to fold the seats down, it has to be all rounder.
 
Love my Manual D2. It does 150m a day commute. Ive had a few issues, mainly rear airbag, front hub, and i have an oil leak, and a strange rotational squeak at the moment but ill get it booked in for the oil seal and try to investigate the squeak too. Had it remapped, and when its on form it flies. Have a bit of a flat spot, but apparantly my fuel pressure drops around that point so i need to check the fuel pump/AFM/air leak but again, when i can be bothered LOL

I didn't think the d2 had much more rear space. You could always ditch the boot seats 6+7 for more space.
 
6-8" more length! Something we all dream we had!

Mine is certainly larger than the old 300 I had. Only sounds a small amount but when you load up with equipment, it really does make the difference from being tight - to actually fitting everything in with room to spare :)
 
When i was researching, it said buy the best you could afford. Dont buy cheap and fix up as theyre cheap for a reason and not that easy to rectify. But thats from a normal consumer point of view, not a grease monkey like you LOL
 
Had a look at a few today, at least I tried, most of them had gone already, the rest were silly prices.
wickford one wasn't there today.
one bloke got a bit nervous, probably because I turned up in the family one which is quite tidy.

the boot is roughly 8" bigger and I will remove the boot seats.

seen one in reading on ebay, it's just over £1500 at the mo, don't know weather to bid or not, 2000 171000 one of those take your chance outfits.
