I had a mini traveller, damn i miss that car. Was standard at the time but id have loved to go the hi/lows route with 10" wide wheels and a silly engine.

Call me an old fuddy duddy if you want (which I am).
prior to doing something like this I always ask myself:-
Why am I going to do this?
What is the benefit?
What is the time to complete?
What will be the cost?
etc.,etc.
Usually by the time I have answered my own questions there is no time left to do it or I have lost any interest which says it was a waste of time anyhow.
I think the wise comments expressed by others will tell you how viable the project would be.
If you were a manufacturer you could do it as a concept vehicle to show what Engineering abilities you have and what can be done or to showcase your company (getting yourself noticed). As a manufacturer you would not go into production with it.
Take a look at the work of Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel if you want to look at some totally meaningless, tasteless modifications for your project Defender.

Incidentally I like the claim by the suppliers of the Lambo kit you identified "the product is plated so will not affect the paint and materials of the vehicle you are fitting it to, so how do you weld and still achieve this claim?
Think of something else to do with your project Defender that will not make it a danger to you or your passengers.
You will not get 100% positive feedback for radical ideas, some people will always reject out of the box thinking but the feedback your idea is getting must tell you something.

One thing I would say is think about parking, 90s are high enough already without factoring in vertical doors! Made this mistake when I lifted my disco, doesn't fit in multi stories or car parks wth barriers!
same with width, how much additional width will it add to be able to park in normal spaces?
That said though, if space isn't an issue, it's your car, go for it! 😊

you do not know what you are doing.
"they would need to be welded on which I am not too sure about" having to ask a basic question like this and start a project of this nature to foolhardy.
learn your skills and have an understanding of their limitations before starting any project.

obviously I can weld, I wasn't sure about getting them to line up and whereabouts on the door to place them, as this is a universal kit rather than specified for a model of car in which case it would be bolt on and it would be obvious where the hinge went, with this however there is no guidance on where to place the hinge and how to get the two doors symmetrical

It is not obvious from your thread that you can weld.
It is obvious the project is beyond your abilities as there is far more engineering skills required to complete the task than welding.

I don't see what the problem with wanting to do something like this, after all it would be your Defender and not theirs. Someone else might not like it, but clearly you do if you're thinking about it. You might anger the "purists" maybe! :lol:
Scissor doors on a 90 would certainly be different though! I say plan it a bit better maybe and go for it. I say plan it a bit better as I'm not sure spending $600 on a kit and going for it will be the best idea.
As for being shot down in flames for a different idea, then you could probably say that Series or Defender owners don't deal well with change! I'm going to go and hide now, they'll be out in force to lynch me!
No harm in trying something if you think about it properly and do it well which I think is the concern of some people who posted. If you find out along the line its too difficult or not very practical then so what? Okay you might have wasted some time and perhaps thats not everyones cup of tea, but if you enjoyed yourself and you learnt something that's great. Then you can get on with the next idea.

Im sorry, I haven't just rushed into this, it has been a long time in the planning, I thought that perhaps asking other defender owners about their opinion might shed some light on things that I didnt know but clearly none of you are interested in anything new. I don't see how you can assume that "it is obvious the project is beyond your abilities" how do you know what my abilities are.
