fuel and oil

Hi All, I have a defender TD 5 90 12 years old....what in your opinion is the best fuel to put in, are the bigger brands better? also I have read its good to put a couple of ml of 2 stroke oil in with your fuel...myth or not? Cheers and save the Landie

I'm a recent convert to Esso Supreme Diesel. Really does appear to make my TD5 run smoother and quieter. Could be all in the head of course....

Adding 2 stroke is no myth as I understand. Not that I do it. Have added Redex a few times though. Think it does the same thing, albeit it's more expensive.

what did you run on before? I use Tesco at moment (because we live in Tesco land), but keep hearing how crap the fuel is. Maybe I shouldn't be a tight arse and give it ago. Like how it never puts the price on the boards for it though! As for the 2 stroke, see what other people think before I am that brave!

Used all the main brands before but never supermarket!

Supermarket fuel plus 2stroke works wonders, reduced the smoke and noise level.
People have been using 2SO for years with out problems.
I am now trying 10% vegie oil for the winter will increase that as summer comes along,

in a td5, plenty...

Don't know the TD5, but in my 300Tdi I always chuck a bit of two stroke in when I put fuel in, and it definitely seems to have reduced the smoking. I also chuck anything up to 50% veg oil in it in the summer

Thats gets me some funny looks on ASDA's (Other supermarkets are available) car park

Freelaner is the man he has put up some studies about that. But Shell and BP had the best reviews

Mineral 2 stroke oil.

im going to give it a go, a little at first then, see what happens. Thanks.

I use low ash 2 stroke quite cheap from wilkinsons, pour about 1 third per tank.
Starts nice and get good mileage.
Apparently it helps lube the fuel injector pump and other bits as well as helping keep injectors in good shape.
I also run some redex though it just before the MOT, must work as its just passed MOT with incredibly low emissions for a 30 year Landy on its original motor!
