I am about to buy a roverron box for my 2004 TD4, but the question is 2a or 2e?
After reading about them, my main query is : whats the difference between a 2a on eco settings and a 2e on eco settings? Which is more economical? I'm guessing the 2a will give more ooomph than a 2e.

Im looking for the best economy. I dont do any towing or a lot of motorway miles.

Help! my brain is melting!!!! :scratching_chin:

From memory the 2e only works below 2500rpm and the 2a across most of the range.

As for which gives the best economy, I have no idea. Possibly the 2e.

Have you read all the blurb on the website?

i'd go for the 2a ..
i think the bottom line for economy .. mechanical condition aside ..
is how you drive it

i'm using setting '8' at the moment on a 2a .. ( medium / high )
apart from doing 70mph .. the rpm rarely see above 2500
but for a quick pass .. if needed .. of a slower vehicle ..
it's drop a gear and use the higher rpm range via the 'high' (rpm power band ) option

and with an 'economy' setting .. i.e. the cab switch has the option of different
power maps ( fuel pressure related ) and maf maps ..

i've tried every setting .. ( and with a pierburg maf / egr deleted .. that's all 10 settings ) .. and my mpg remains the same .. be just the response to the go-pedal position that differs .. i.e. with a low setting more pedal input is needed to maintain a given speed uphill or against a headwind ..

i think the downside to the higher settings is that the low pressure pump needs to work a bit more when power is demanded .. so will wear out sooner ..
the higher settings no doubt wear out tyres a bit sooner as well ..
but there's always the option of using a lite right foot :)

maybe insurance will be slightly cheaper with the 2e ..
will depend on the insurance company .. ( etc )

I'm edging towards 2a to be honest, from what I have read, I can't see the difference between a 2a in eco settings and a 2e, so the 2a has the added bonus of power above 2500 rpm.

At the moment I have power turned off but Pierberg MAF compensation on.

As I have low pressure fuel pump problems, I have been driving gently. My auto averaged 43 mpg over 180 miles, but I was generally only doing a sat nav 55mph (60mph indicated)) on the motorway.

Driving slower and gently does more for fuel economy than pretty much anything else.

I thought the 2e was for low down torque & improved fuel consumption.
2a can do the same thing but can also give you more top end power if you want it.
I guess the question is do you spend a bit extra & have the ability to increase your top end power if you should ever need to.

I've got the 2a fitted but turned it down for the moment while I'm in 2wd mode until I get a new VCU.

I went for the 2e and get an average 30mpg across town/towing/motorway/ I suspect if I stayed at 65mph on a long run I'd get better mpg but I have not had a chance to try that.

That's on an '06 TDI auto.

I use the manual gear change when it's cold as I can get the revs down sooner than waiting for the auto box to change up. When hot there is little difference.

At this point in time I am just about living with the mpg given that I get 50mpg from my Volvo but that is a much newer car and lighter than the Freelander.

I replaced the maf with the Pierburgh one when I fitted the 2e

I was thinking of fitting a Ronbox to our 54 plate TD4 Auto, but it has an Autologic upgrade in the ECU already, would the Ronbox work with it does anyone know. We are looking to get better fuel economy.

It says on Rons site that a ronbox works with remaps so should be ok.
I finally went for the 2a over the 2e, hopefully it gets delivered tomorrow. Thanks for the advice guys.

When I spoke to Darren at Ronbox he was running a Freelander TD4 with a remap and s Ronbox. Using both gave him about 165bhp, but the economy suffered.
