Hi, I have a defender v8 on carbs which has lack of power, misfire and back fires.
When looking in to it I've found the it seems to not be firing on 3 cyclinders :(

Have changed the spark plugs and there is spark in the cyclinders that are not firing.
Swapped a ht lead from a working cyclinder to a one that isn't working and there is no change - so rules out ht lead

Tried another 2nd hand coil and that made no change

The 3 cylinders that are not working is the first and last one on the drivers side and one of the middle cylinder on the passager side.

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Thanks for any help

Think I would be getting a compression test, seems odd to have 2 on one bank and one on the other tho. Its a while since I have worked on one. What about dizzy cap and rotor arm.

Thanks for the replies, going to do a compression test tomorrow, for a good working cylinder what reading would you get?

Balding cam? How would you test for that

Off the top of my head it should be around 165 psi. Stripping down would be your best bet and check the cam followers while your there.
