A question about LPG and the tailgate lock.

Hi guy's,

I have a P38 (1998 model) and it has a gas conversion.
The car will not drive on gas as after raising the RPM, it will cut out as the RPM settles back to normal.
If i do not press the accelerator peddle, the car will tick over nicely on the gas.
The certificate of conformity states that the name of the system type is a Tartarini system.

As i know nothing about LPG, other than the few little bits and pieces of read on the forum, i am going to attempt to clean the solenoid/s and change the filter.
The thing is, as i don't know what i'm looking at for LPG systems, i have no idea on what, and where i should focus my attention.
Mechanically the car is sound, albeit with a bit of tappet noise (mileage is 170,400 or there about) and a little bit of a rattle on the timing chain i believe.
I plan to get this all checked out first before i confirm that but that's what it sounds like to me.

If i take a few pictures under the bonnet and under the car, could any of you spare some knowledge on what i should be focusing on for the LPG?

Another question i have is with regards to the lock for the split tailgate.
The thing just will not lock when i lock the using the remote fob.
There is no key lock for the tailgate and it just has a button which, if pressed when the rest of the car is locked, just opens the tailgate and sets off the alarm
When i press the lock button on the remote fob i hear the motors locking all the other locks on the car but not at the tailgate.
Do you think the locking motor is a dud and is there are an easy way to test it using a multi-meter?

as far as boot lock then yes all there is is a button , drop tailgate remove trim ,undo 4 parts to lock strip down clean , the spring needs a good rub down eith emery sponge clean then apply some Vaseline to spring inerside of button etc re -connect all 4 parts put trim back on job done should all take 15mins ,,

question one: does it run well and normal on petrol . ?
question two : is it LPG Injection or induction , pretty obvious when you look Induction mixes the gas at the throttle body . injection is 1 injector per cylinder

Thank you for the advice on the lock.
I will try and have a go at that when i have got some free time.

The engine in my Range is the 4.0.
I believe it's a Gems engine?
I've only had the car a couple of days and i am based in Wolverhampton.
I'm not entirely sure when the car was last serviced but according to the last owner, it was only a few months ago.
I never take stock in servicing details when buying a car anyway as i always like to do my own for piece of mind.
It will be getting a full service from me as soon as i can get the LPG issue sorted.

As for the LPG servicing, i have no idea when that was last done, if ever, so i'm looking to have a go at that myself where applicable.
If i have to though, i will get it serviced professionally so as to keep the system as clean as possible.

I will update my signature to show most of the details that i should have given in the first place before posting.

Hi Autogas,

It runs fine on petrol and it runs fine on the gas so long as i don't increase the RPM.
I think its an induction system as the last owner told me that it is single point?
I will take some pictures of the engine bay now and upload them in a few minutes so that you can get a clearer picture.
 
hi mate ok then get the l.p.g. side serviced by a lpg specialist but I might add it would be favourable to have the petrol side serviced 1st as this is the way to go , as most decent service agents wont touch the lpg side till petrols side is done cos they will reset the trims etc and if the petrol sdide isint running efficiently then there wasting their time servicing the lpg ,, most lpg services cost approx. £40-50 , and + filter £50- 60 , so for say £60 , all in then you know that the lpg has been put on diagnostics -serviced- safety checked -and trims set so as I say not bad for all that for £60 ,,,and peace of mind , :):):):)

I'll be doing the service midweek if i can.
The car itself isn't being used at the moment as i'm waiting to get the issues sorted first before it replaces my Volvo T4.

the lpg fault could be a sensor or could be a fault with the mixer. single point are old hat and not up to it these days.! its old and will have faults.

it appears your a specialist on all things leather and trims THATS why we didn't ask you about L.P.G. :D:D:D

IF ITS OLD AND HAS FAULTS !!!!! is why we suggested he goes to a specialist l.p.g. mechanic who will put it on diagnostics !!!!!!!:nothingtoadd:
 
are the petrol injectors being turned off when it goes over to gas as that can cause the problem you have. also if your intending to keep the car it might be worth having a multipoint system put in. you will only need the front end doing as you already have the tank etc.

ok im local to you pm if you want for starters them are emergency eas valves as previous said secondly the lock off solenoid is missing off the regulator that's why the red & black wires are adrift,i might have one at work but they do vary in fitment so its hit & miss.theres no way its going to run on lpg without this sorted first but beware it could have been removed for a reason and discarded cause its dodgy or pumping lpg into the water system, although they are known to burn out some times.it might be in the vehicle somewhere if you look it will be a plastic looking moulded block about 1"x1" with 2 male spade ends fitted & a hole bored through the centre most prob blue but could be black or grey in colour;)

I have been busy with finishing off my decorating and some family issues which have recently surfaced.

I'd love to take you up on your offer to come over and take a look.
I could do with a few pointers.
The lock off solenoid you are talking about is there. Its located under the hose for the air intake.
I noticed it the other day when i was trying to get a better look at the system.

I will PM you now so that we can arrange a time suitable if you are still willing to come over. :)
