Where do the wires go between the fuel pump and relay.

Hi folks,

Went to start the trusty Rangy today and she turned over with no sign of firing at all. After going through every test I've finally narrowed it down to a break in the circuit between the fuel pump relay and the wires on top of the pump.

Car is a 90 3.9 Classic with the earlier style fuel pump and side mounted sender unit.

If I wire 12 volts to the pump directly she fires into life. The relay appears to be working okay so I can only surmise there is a break somewhere between the wires that connect to pins 87/87a on the relay and the fuel pump.

My question is where does this wire go? It seems to leave the pump go towards the sender unit visable from the N/S/R wheelarch and then go backwards from there. Obviously at some point it goes into the cabin however I'm not sure where to look.

Essentially I want to do a continuity test on the section of wire until I can find the break Are there any common areas to look for?

Many thanks in advance!

That's what I did in the end.

In the morning when I had more light I checked all the continuity and it seemed fine so was impossible to then identify the fault. Engine started and ran fine. 10mins later it stopped again. I have run a new wire for now.

I would like the loom to be as original as possible so I will probably re double my checks in the summer.

For now though I have a working Rangie again!

Next on the list.... fix the heater fan grrrr.

Cheers!
