Hello forum,
I'd like to say I'm super excited to be joining this place, but after today, my passion is waning. After purchasing a very tired old Landy back in August, the subsequent repairs and problems I've had are beginning to wear me down. Got screwed and my naivety was taken advantage of, but following the first problems, I wanted to get her up to scratch and keep her moving for me and for the next owner.
I am now dealing with a clutch problem and subsequent recovery issues and what little money I had is now dripping through the holes in my Landy......my workshop manual will arrive Ina couple of days! But I will be using the other forum sites to help with some trouble shooting pretty soon.
Hoping for some encouragement from Landy Zone! I'm gonna need it.
Regards,
Semele

I know how you feel.

I started with a Gaylander and was forever getting stuck and ripping **** off. Then ended up getting a much older Disco 300tdi which was great for off-roading and it was even my daily drive. I loved the thing but sadly the chassis became so rusty I ended up having to get rid of it before the MOT. Then I got a Disco II TD5 which surprisingly ended up being almost as bad in terms of rust underneath. I got rid of it for the same reason.

After not having much luck with Landy's and given that I don't have the time or space to work on them, I've bought myself a Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0. Great little off roader for £600 and very little rust for its age. Shame about the fuel consumption though...

Don't lose the passion for off-roading. It may just be that Landy's are not for you. Though I will probably get slated for saying that!

Is the landy stuck somewhere, im sure we could tow it home

That's a shame if it is a clutch and you can't do it yourself its going to cost you around £700
Sorry to be the bearer of bad new but hopefully its just the slave cylinder .
Go to the defender section and explain your symptoms

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated. It's stuck in Teddington, so if there is anyone willing to tow it back to Surbiton, I would be more than grateful! I might have to scrap it if it is the whole clutch as I can't stretch to the cost....massive sobs.....

You haven't told anyone your symptom yet don't give up just yet
Go to the defender section and explain all in detail

Good luck

Shame you don't live by me, I know a small garage that repair Land Rovers, that do a clutch for £150 labour.

Sorry to hear your woes.

Certainly buying an old Landy brings with it a risk as with all old vehicles and one certainly needs to be prepared for the occasional wrong 'un.

Of course the main advantage with it being a Landy is that it's relatively easy to fix and often cheaper than most other makes.

Not when it comes to the gearbox off its not :)

More expensive than most cars due to time and wieght.

Yeh, I was expecting to have to fork out for problem solutions. I wasn't expecting to have to fork out for so many in less than 4 months. Spent nearly what I paid for it already.......considering using my consumer rights on the bloke that sold it me. Maybe a legally minded email could get me my money back........

Depends if you got a warranty I suppose but its wear and item I'm afraid .

What's actually wrong with it is the pedal still stiff?

Not got a warranty......posted in the defender talk forum with the details. Not been back to the car since I left it yesterday. Arranging recovery later today...
