misted screen options

I used one of those years ago, it was 150w if I remember & it helped very slightly but wasn't great. Too small an area of warmish air blowing out. Another option I tried was a radiator coolant additive (called heater hotter I think though watter wetter was another one available at the time). This worked great & halved the time the car took to warm up but there was a problem. This stuff is so efficient at clinging to surfaces & transmitting heat that it found every minor gap/leak in the coolant system that it could. Eventually I had topped up so much that I had seriously diluted what was left & used a bottle of holts radweld to sort out my car. If your coolant system is in top nick then this would definitely be worth trying.

I use the rain-x anti misting/fogging stuff in mine. Doesn't eliminate the problem and can be a bitch to get on smear free but after a few applications mine clear much much quicker. Only a few quid a bottle from motor factors/halfrauds. Worth a go.

Also worth eliminating any damp areas in the car. Could be a leaking seal or crap weather shield between trim & windows.

Finally I remember a tip on here to open your windows just before you get home to equalise the air temp between inside & outside.

My problem is that the car steams up after about 10-15 minutes after I have been driving, with the drivers door window being more affected than the passenger door window, as well as the windscreen.

I was wondering if my air con doesn't have enough gas. Also water in car is a possible cause, but not aware of anywhere inside being wet.

It seems to occur in temperatures 8c and lower.

Just hate the fact it takes so long to clear miss my tdci now it had heated screen as standard lol...

My air con is fine and I have great heat from the heater once it warms was just thinking instant heat once I get in the car with the heater I listed

Thanks.

Recirc button is off.
Yes there is a smell, but not anti freeze.
No water on inside of screen etc.

Only happens about 10-15 mins onwards on the journey when the windows must up. New thermostat fitted last week. Water temp now 89c instead of 69c.

I will have a look under the mats tomorrow.

Where are the sunroof drain pipes on the FL? I need to get them checked I guess.

Take off the sunroof glass and you will see 2 front and 2 rear draintubes

Air con drain tube was mentioned in the link too :)

Yeah mine is always misted up on the inside on a cold morning - frozen on the inside too when cold enough:(

Last time I checked the fish tank was bone dry. It used to have a subwoofer in there until I realised it was duff and removed it.

I'm having the air con checked on Friday.

Question:

I know the air con is switched on with both settings for the windscreen. Does it still work when the temperatures drop under about 4 or 5c? The manual says it comes on without the ac light on, but does it actually come on when the temperatures drop? My Yeti had a clutch of some sort that stopped it from coming on under 4c. Is the Freelander the same?

If it's happening 15 mins into the journey I'd check the cubby hole in the boot. Could be damp and as the exhaust/back box heats up it's evaporating and condensing on your cold windows.

:behindsofa:

I know that condensation/water in the cubby box is well covered on here but I find that if I wedge something under the hinged cover to keep it ajar the problem is not as bad. Int's definately condensation in my case, the bare plastic underside of the cover is covered with water droplets on a chilly morning but the carpet liner is bone dry. I was toying with the idea of getting the underside of the cover flock sprayed to see if that would help. Other than the anti-condensation crystal packs does anyone have any suggestions
