I know, I'm a heretic for even thinking about it...

I had a whimsical notion of putting a Series I or II body on my 300Tdi chassis - has anyone here done something similar? If so, can you post some pics? Not sure what a 100" Series would look like...

This is what got me thinking - utterly mad but somehow appealing! I think its a 107? I wouldn't be chopping/extending the chassis but keeping it at 100" so it'd be a 2 door

Thanks

The only question which springs to mind is "Good God Why?" (and 'Because I can' just won't cut it in this instance).

Mark Evans did a similar thing on A 4x4 is born but used 90/100 parts on a 100" RRC chassis, Looked pretty good when he'd done, he did have to modify the chassis though to get the bulkhead to fit in place, and shorten the rear tub.

Yeah, I saw the 4x4 is born series - loved it.

As to why? - well I have a 300Tdi that is in pretty good order to be honest. Got a couple of jobs to do mechanically, the biggest being to replace the steering box and pump, but its a 100k miler with new cambelt, new clutch & gearbox. Rear arches have been done, boot floor is pretty good, but I've found some rust holes under the A pillars in the usual place. Its also starting to go on the front inner arches, so I'm sure that once I pull the wings off and get a proper look I'll find a lot more rot. Hence the decision will need to be made whether to repair it and keep it as a D1 or drop a different body onto it.

I've always liked the Series shape but never considered putting a S1 body on it until I saw that pic and thought...hmmmmm! I wouldn't use anything restorable, just the typical body remnants that are found from time to time. Otherwsie it'd be a S2 non runner/MoT failure.
