Hi there, I have only just recently bought my first Freelander TD4 and am looking to perform an oil change on it.

I don't have anywhere under cover to do this and I can't wait till next year when the weather gets better.

My question is: Has anyone ever used an Oil Extraction Pump to change their oil?

I have seen some on Ebay that come with thin hose that goes down the dipstick.

Thanks

Used one for about three years now on our two TD4's. Very successful as with the accessible filter you don't need to get under the car. Put plenty of rag around the filter casing to stop the oil getting to the alternator when you lift the filter out.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm glad its a positive answer I was afraid someone was going to say its a bad idea.

Coolio :)

Personally I use the old fashioned method. It's a half hour job so can be done pretty much any time of year outside if you get a dry day.

point about getting down and dirty underneath the car is you can cast your eyes over a lot of items that can, and will cause trouble if neglected, a service is more than an oil and filter change!!!!

I have used an oil pump but like others have said it's good to drain the oil out the sump plug and check about while your there , Plus if you leave the sump pan bolts another year you might not get them out .

thanks for the feedback chaps.

I agree that getting under and draining properly is the best option and will do that at the soonest opportunity.

However I think the pump is my only option for this oil change.

Dear Nodge
With your V6 filter mounting you haven't any choice!
