Hello,

My SIII has developed the following electrical fault:

No lights on - indicators work fine.
Sidelights on - indicators work fine.

Headlights on - headlights glow dimly and spot lamps are on, left indicator on constant (no flashing). Right indicator works fine.

I have a spare indicator/horn stalk suspecting that to be the issue, just swapped it over no change. Cleaned up the main earth from battery and the one near the clutch pedal, no joy.

Ordered a new light switch (lucas) but am not sure that would have any effect on the indicator?

Anyone experienced this or similar or has any ideas I'd be very grateful!

Thanks

J

Check the earth on front slam panel [between wings]
Bad earth on lighting circuit will make it look for an alternative path hence finding a way through indicator.

+1 definitely sounds like bad connection / earth fault, its worth cleaning up all the connector points, had a bad one on my N/S headlight and caused a really dim headlight if other stuff was on.

As others have posted sounds like earths. I added an extra earth from where the earths meet up on slam panel direct to battery. I did this when chasing dim headlights after converting to halogen. Turned out to be 24v in 12v box !
It is a good idea to remove and clean all bulbs and refit with a light coating of vaseline.
Earth problems can come from poor bulb contact.

Thank you folks, for your advice.

I had no idea there was an earth on the slam panel, cleaned that up and I'm now on everything functioning bar one headlamp which I assume is a bulb, I'll resume tinkering and cleaning connections once hurricane herbert has passed.

Cheers

J
