90 No Heat

For some reason there is no heat coming through the blower. I traveled 100 miles yesterday, the temperature gauge was in the middle all the way. But there was still no heat coming from the heater just cold.

I have done as this forum post suggested and still nothing (feeling the cold in your truck - Defender Forum - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum)

I have read that some people swap the two coolant cables around. Is this a good idea?

Any other things i could do ?

Are your cables connected.?
Is there any water leaking from your heater matrix.?!
Does your temprature gauge work.?

It most probably that your matrix is broken, however make sure that your waterpump is working and water is circulating as it should be.

How's your coolant levels.?

Oh and make sure that you have the cable adjusted correctly, often cables are such they fail to move the lever when operated by the leave. Ensure you have the small green metal clips in place.

Yup cables seem to be connected and tight.
No that i can see, but will double check.
Temperature gauge seems to work.

Im a newbie, where abouts is the water pump ?

Got the landrover a couple of days ago havnt looked yet, will check today

Normally you have various indicators which suggests the WP is failing: Noisy pump, Temp gauge not moving or over heating and cold pipes. To locate the pump, look at the vehicle from the front and it is the top right pulley on the auxiliary belt, just to the right of the belt tensioner.

Look at the matrix first, normal signs is water just beneath the box on the bracket! Get someone to operate the heater controls whilst you are Abe to observe how far the leaver hinges.

Small green metal clips?

Will have a look to see any leaks. Was also going to take it a drive and find out if the pipes going in to it are hot too

If everything there seems in order, try pouring a solution of caustic soda into the heater matrix.
Leave it for 10-15 mins and rinse it out really well.

I had the same problem with my old Disco, and this worked a treat...

What engine do you have?

Use a hose and back flush the matrix, when I done mine I got loads of crap out of it... Still had crap heaters mind, TD5 upgrade is a worthy mod (do a search, been covers many times)

No heater is often the first warning of water loss.The temp gauge can not be relied on as an indicator of water level because as the coolant level drops the temp gauge sender[normaly found at the top of an engine]is no longer in the water. I have often thought that coolant level warning lamp[as on many new vehicles now] would be more use to most than a gauge.

As has already been said, take the hoses off your heater and give it a good flush through.

Once you have clean water coming out, fill it with coke, leave for an hour or so and then flush it through again.

Unless you have any leaks, that will work every time!

Just went for a drive and pulled over to check to see if pipes were warm and they were stone cold. Off to check coolant levels and find any possible leaks.

Is there a thermostat fitted?

Not that i am aware of, Even tho there is a couple of cables going into the heater box, but they are for the resistors are they not?

The wires run the fan,but fan on or not pipes should warm up.

Thinking it might be an air lock. Going to make sure it's not later. Will post result.
