99 Range rover p38 2.5 auto gearbox problem

Hi we have a gearbox problem with my dads 1999 2.5 dse range rover p38 automatic. Went on holiday and on way back radiator blew, and car overheated. We then replaced radiator, water pump and thermo stat. But when we tried to drive the car, there was a problem with the gearbox.

it goes into 1st and 2nd but doesn't go to any other gears. Doesn't change up after 2nd gear. Reverse is fine tho. The sports mode button makes no difference. We have changed the gearbox oil but same problem, what could it be. Has the gearbox gone. There are no faults on screen. Had it Plugged into a machine and had no fault codes. Any suggestions please thanks.

How was vehicle recovered after rad blew on all 4 wheels ? as there are important procedures for recovery if being towed to prevent gearbox damage

It was recovered and put onto a recovery truck.

Sounds terminal I am afraid - you could try swapping the Gearbox ECU over - ZFHP22EH, is it not,otherwise you could spend more on investigating than just swapping it for a new Ashcroft.

Was it towed any distance before it got onto the recovery truck?
Can you select low range?
Water from the burst RAD may have got into various connectors.

It wasn't towed, but when it overheated we had to drive it in low gear to get it off the motorway. But wasn't for long about half a mile if that. Thanks for the replies so far.

have you tried a replacement selector switch?

sorry for your troubles, if its any consolation, I brought mine on saturday and it threw its propshaft 24hrs later. today I've been buying bits! By the end of the week, my wallet will be an expert!
