TD4 Miss-fire, Injector Fault? EGR Fault?

Hi All

I have a 2005 freelander td4

i was driving up the motorway the other day and everything was fine, i got to a roundabout after coming off the junction and car started running all lumpy(misfire)?

Had my mate around(auto electrician) to put his diagnostic machine on the car and id didn't pick up any faults, he seemed to think it was an injector fault so checked that the voltage going to the injectors were all ok(they were)

we then unplugged the injector plugs one at a time like you would with a spark plug to see if there was any obvious difference, Number 1 injector made a very slight difference the others made the missfire worse.

i have since tried some injector cleaner and had a leak test on the injectors, results from that were that number 1 was leaking slightly more than the other 3 but all 4 could do with a service @£80 each but he said as i have no starting problems in the hot or cold or the car doesnt smoke it sounded more like an EGR fault? tonight i have cleaned out the EGR valve(it was mankey) but that has still made no difference

Any other ideas?

I would get it to a bosch specialist but from the sounds of it the injector looks like its had it, Ive had two FL TD4's both have had injectors go and it sounds like that but I would definatly recommend a bosch specialist

Also i take it my injectors are Bosch? ive not looked yet but been told there are a couple different makes?

is the tickover lumpy ?

Clean the terminals on the fuel rail pressure sensor.

Yeah but when you rev to about 1800-2000 the lumpiness goes

I had the same symptoms as yours a while ago, cleaning the fuel rail pressure sensor plug helped a little, but in the end it got worse and was down to an injector which I replaced myself. Took me about 2 hours as it was the first one I'd done so took it steady.

No problems since.

did you use a proper LR fault code reader or was it a universal type?
problem with most universal types is they only read the emissions related faults (as that is the legal minimum) and not the encrypted LR ones.
I would try the rescue board to see if anyone has a LR reader close by that would read any faults for you...

Other thing is that there was a LR bulletin about the wiring on the fuel rail pressure sensor - sometime the problem is in the loom rather than the connection itself.
I had this problem a few years back on my last FL and had to replace with the mini-loom.

Hi Snapper, no it wasn't a proper land rover fault code reader, and I've had a look on the rescue board and cant seem to find anyone close to me :-(
