Hi Guys,

I put my D2 in for its MOT the other day, to my surprise there were only a few fails, but the main one being that the middle second row seats will lock to the floor but they wont lock back in the upright position.

If you fold them out and click them down, give em a tug and sure enough they just come forward ready to fold up.

I haven't spent a massive amount of time looking in to the issue yet but I have looked at the mechanism where the top of the seat joins to the base and folds. All I can see here is a stretched spring.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Whip them out for he MOT, it won't fail as the seats aren't there. I had mine MOTd with only the front seats as I had not sorted the new chassis to seatbelt anchor points. It will get the car on the road so you can use it whilst sorting a fix

Obviously I'm not suggesting the seats are used whilst incorrectly functioning, that would be dangerous!!!!!

Very common, unfortunately ...

I noticed the same problem on a 2004 audi S4 I took it apart and found a plastic tap broke and got stuck in the latch part I had to replace the lock part of the seat ...

so when given the job of sorting the same in a D2, I knew where to start ...

The handle/strap looped together that you pull upwards to release & pull seat forward to fold has probably lost its spring tension...

Slam the seat down onto the floor & then push the handle/strap down towards the floor...
Most D2s do this occasionally, I found by accident that the handle/strap may be at fault...

This may help ...

If you can see a bit of spring hanging out of the inside latch mechanism.

Try and work out where it goes, it may not look like its broken, just out of place....

Thanks for all the reply's Guys.

I haven't had a chance to get out and look at the car as yet, but my free re-test limit is looming so I may well remove them to buy me a bit more time to figure it out.

DIFFLOCK66, I had that problem with the 3rd row seats in mine a while back, The link Dippypud has provided helped me fix them.

I'll keep you all up to date

Andy - you sure that will apply to the 2nd row seat I'm on about? The 60/40 split folding seat. It's the 40 bit (the single one behind the front passenger).
The mechanism looks different to the one in the link. Thanks anyway.

Diff.

Same problem with a Disco1. Not been MOT'd while I've had it (yet) though.

Catch seems to lock when using a screwdriver to substitute for the pin so I'm going to spend a little time seeing if anything can be adjusted. Otherwise it'll be MOt'd as a 2 seater (thanks to GreenHornet for the tip).
