Thank you, I feel very humbled by that comment. Others inspired me so its good to hear of another Disco being saved from the scrap heap

Really enjoyed reading this topic, this has inspired me to crack on with mine and get it looking as good as yours!

Cheers mate, mine is on hold at the moment as I had a replacement hip fitted 5 weeks so not allowed to go out and work on it for a few more weeks yet:mad:

I took a few days to read thread as i felt it would be cheating to read in one go when you have patiently carried out your work.

I admire people who are able to carryout the work but also able to put together an exciting log of their exploits. Finding the time to share with others and putting a nice log is a skill in itself!

Dont mean to knock your work..... but are the rear calipers the wrong way around? Or did you design it to be like that?
Incidentally, what brake pipe flaring tool did you use?

Maybe gonna give the 1/4 panel a go also!

No, the calipers are all on the correct way round.

I got one of THESE brake flaring kits along with a roll of copper pipe, just made sure everything was clamped tightly together in a vice when using it and done a few practice flares

Maybe gonna give the 1/4 panel a go also!
The ONLY way to do the job properly! Don't forget the pics

Looks like you're making good progress on your restoration.

Hope you don't think I'm hi-jacking your thread. Only reason I ask is I'm up to exactly this stage on my own restoration on the front wing section i.e rust killer / red oxide primed / top coat and not sure what to do next.
I'll not be offended if the answer is "bugger off and start your own rebuild thread!" :p

What do you intend to do to keep the inner wings protected in the future? I was considering whether or not it'd be a good idea to use some sort of under-seal. Or, perhaps just a nice thick coat of waxoil.

The other question I wanted to ask is; Do you think that the plastic arch liners should be re-fitted to prevent crud getting into the gunge trap. Or, is it a better plan to leave the area open so it can be hosed out on a regular basis?

As Mark rightly says bin the plastic rot promoters if you do any off road driving. All they do is hold all the mud and crud against you nice new wing to help speed up the rot!

Once the whole of the rebuild is done I intend to shultz or waxoil the complete underside. No point doing it before as the mig welder likes to set it alight!
 
Great work there Mr RobP. It is looking really nice. Rear calipers are upside down though I'm afraid. Trust me bleeding is difficult enough without having the nipples at the bottom.

I am impressed with your panel work, well done again..

Cheers, yes I had resigned myself to the fact that I had been an idiot an put the calipers on upside down.

Ah... well, my two are strictly tarmac-warriors unless you count the foot or so of snow we seem to get round here every year... :p

I didn't find any sediment in the void behind the liner on mine. Well, tell a lie, a little road grime had got through at the very bottom edge and was sitting there. However, once removed there was only a little surface rust to find which cleaned up very easily with a rotary wire brush.

After reading this, I wondered out to look at my liners, I will be moving that way soon and was wondering what to do.... One has melted!?! :eek: I think it is from some welding which has been done previously and they couldn't be bothered to take stuff off. Will be having mine off when I get to removing the wings.

Hope the hip is holding up ok, keep at it mate....
