With diff lock engaged drive is split equally to front and back props, axle diffs still work normally so you can get 2 wheels (1front & 1 back) completely losing traction and spinning taking the drive from the other two wheels

Only with axle locks mate. Centre diff lock just locks the propshafts together, individual wheels can still lose drive/turn/spin at different rates due to the open diff in each axle.

you have 3 diffs on a landy, centre diff (lockable) and a front and rear axle diff, not lockable as standard.
this is presuming you dont have a new fancy thing...
centre diff open, lose traction in one wheel, you stop...
centre diff locked, loose traction in one wheel, or both wheels on the same axle you keep going, the problem comes if you lose one front and one rear.

peter watch this, it will explain a lot. you have three of these in the landy, as opposed to one in a two wheel drive car. only the centre one locks.

I can't find what Landy Peter has, but it's worth noting for his benefit that all Land Rovers after the last series are permanent 4 wheel drive using the centre diff principle unless it was a special build or modified later by an owner.
Depending on which model he has, the centre diff may or may not be a lockable differential, especially on some Discovery models when the only options on the transfer box are 4WD high ratio, 4WD low ratio or neutral. Models without a locking centre diff often have electronic traction control installed in an effort to limit wheel spin.

your 300tdi is permanent 4 wheel drive - open differentials in both axles and a lockable differential in the centre, linking the two axles together.
