Opinions on this disco ?

I'd rather have a 99 300tdi than a 99 TD5 (99 was the change over year) so it's off to a good start. It has the sickly yellow interior which would instantly put me off, but, personal preference and all that.

You need to go at it with a screw driver, check the boot floor and sills for rot.

Price wise, probably a bit steep, but, i've not really tracked the price of D1's recently, i'd say if it is in good condition then for the age, etc. £1500 absolute tops.

I'd be going over it VERY carefully...
Load rating on wheels...
Mileage, my 96 3.9 had been clocked to 75k from roughly 200k and the drivers seat was in better nick ...

Caveat emptor ...

get underneath it and prod it thorougly with a scewdriver, especially the cills, footwells and rear cossmember, otherwise it looks tidy enough. I'd be inclined to argue to price down at least 25%, if not more. paid a grand for a '98 disco in similar condition a year or so ago, and thought that was on the steep side

looks like the front valance has been cut away to improve approach angle when off roading, no problem with that, loads of peeps do it, BUT that doesn't tie in with the "old lady only drove her geese across a field" story.

That said, it seems exceptionally shiny for a 1999 model, so I would be looking as above, especially for signs of off road damage underneath.

Agree that a late 300tdi is a better choice than an early td5. However, that one is way over-priced. When checking it out, if you go for a look, check front footwells for squelchyness - is the lining under the carpet saturated with water? This suggests either leaking sunroof problem (any sign of headlining sagging, or discoloured from water round the edge off the roof, where the water has run from the leaking sunroof to the edge?), or leaking footwells. There's a big wiring grommet at the back of the footwell which often leaks water in from behind where the screen wash bottle is.

Any sign of rust when you open the back doors, in the angle between the door pillar by the seat back and the wheel arch? If so knock off more money for the welding that the MOT inspector will insist that you must have done.

I agree with the previous poster who suggests that the level of off-road preparation does not match up with old ladies visiting their ducks. Reading the e-bay ad I don't get a good feeling about it, but that could just be me.
