Defender rolling chassis weight?

Would any one be able to tell me the weight of a Defender Rolling chassis? I have purchased one from E-bay and wish to use an A frame to tow it back with a Vauxhall Vectra 2000CD. I have checked the Gov site pertaining to towing and it states that an un-braked A-frame is able to tow 750K as long as that is 85% of the curb wight of the towing vehicle. The Vectra un loaded is approx 1450k Any ideas or enlightenment please.
 
I would of thought it was illegal to tow just a chassis even if it were tax, tested and insured - don't all 4 wheels have to be off the ground?

You may be better off hiring a beaver tail recovery truck. They're not usually that expensive.

Cornwall to Bristol It is just the chassis with wheels no engine or gear box. I saw on line estimate of complete 90's weighing in at 2400kg gross weight. unladen/kerb weight 1815 kg. my vectra estate weighs in at 1450 85% =1232.5 that I can legally tow. surly a 90 rolling chassis has to be lighter that 1232.5n0r is this wrong?

Even if it were i would have thought it invalid because its not in a safe condition?

Looked on gov sites and net in general. Have now decided not to risk it with the A-frame. I can borrow a trailer that is un-braked made from a caravan chassis. It states that a trailer less than 750Kg does not require brakes but not sure if that is laden or un-laden so the original question remains, what is the weight of a bare 90 rolling chassis? if the combined weight is 750Kg no problem. My car can legally tow 1232.5 Kg if the combined weight is less than 1232.5 do I have a problem.
 
If it's a caravan chassis they usually have brakes.. so would prob tow a tonne or so.

as to weight

Well a wheel weighs about 30KG so there's 120Kg

An Axle with diffs hubs etc is probably around the 100kg zone so ya upto 320KG and ya haven't added springs, shocks radius arms steering box etc etc. gotta be another 50Kg in ancillariesies So 370kg Plus the Chassis I'd estimate around the 600KG range..

That 750KG trailer is looking like an option.. :rolleyes:

The trailer should have a plate on it stating the all max up weight (ie the trailer + load together). Unbraked will be max of 750 in any case. Maybe worth checking the owners manual for the car also to check if there are towing limits for the car. My Toyota Verso for is only rated to 450kg for example! But VW van 2,500kg and the Landy 3,500kg. I think the 85% rule is a guideline is there is nothing in the owners manual. The whole towing thing is a nightmare of rules and regulation. This assume that you are old enough to have the old license which means you do not need a separate towing test.
 
Phoned Marsland this morning, their bare chassis weigh 160 Kg so add on the axle and wheels and it's well under 750Kg. so happy now. Thanks for your help.
