Can anyone offer ideas?

Engine gets very hot (smell under bonnet and temp) Loses all power but does not stall. Coolant temp, remains stable and low. Engine runs again OK after cooling off, until over heats again. It's a series 1 K series engine

how did you get on with this??? sounds like whats happening to mine at the moment but temp gauge does not pass 1/2 way but does seam hot when i open bonnet

the guage is notoriously inaccurate and will stay on the centre line right up to the point where it gets extremely hot.

if it goes up to the top there is something very much amiss.

ohh thanks freelaner thats nice to no i have been trying to test my cooling system today. tipex on blade of can and cowling run car for a hr+ fans did not kick in checked fuse in dash 25amps all ok any thoughts would be helpful thanks keiron

check

thermostat (is it the remote one or the one at the rear of the engine?)
is the system bled correctly
is the radiator blocked
is the water pump working
do you have a faulty guage

it is very difficult to get the fans running unless the ambient temp is quite high.
last time mine came in was after i'd left it running for well over an hour at 2000 revs.

unplug the sensor and the fans will run, it is a simple test to see if they, at least, will work.
