Hi - New member here - looking for some advice.
I have a 2001 TD4 Dieso AUTO 129K miles- The body is in great condition and I've just had the 2 drive shafts and the VC replaced plus the IRD box, (the rear diff was done too) and when the transmission started playing up by reverse refusing to connect, I had the whole gear box unit and the torque converter replaced by a reputable 4X4 specialist. After driving the vehicle home I garaged it for the night.
Next morning (when cold) the car chugged off but at each gear change - particularly between 2 and 3 the revs shot up during a delay in the next gear picking up. This has happened on 3 mornings now and after about 5 miles the box warms up and behaves normally. This morning however it crawled out of the garage in 'D' and had to be given a good 50 yards to pick up enough drive to change gears and get going. After it is properly warm the gears seem to change OK but there is a whine from the gearbox (related to the final drive speed) sounds like a jockey wheel as it comes and goes with the drive being on or off? So it's back to the specialist but what could it be - the whole unit was replaced so has something been missed? Help - I'm running out of patience and funds (but that's probably part of the 'fun' in owning one of these beasts!
Any pointers anyone?
Thanks
Mike

As above take it back. Is the auto reconditioned? Or they may have done a bad job or not tested it for faults. When my recon auto was fitted they fitted a whine to mine too.

Thanks Guys - it's going back and it is a used replacement box apparently 'nearly new' in which case I bet it is a straight swop and no checks were made. I presume the 'pumps' someone said were in these boxes are not part of the issue?
Thanks again.
M:)

Uh no you own a gaylander not a beast!!!! Sell it buy a discovery then you will own a beast :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

As the other guys say, take it back but for anyone else with strange noises a fluid change can work wonders. Mine made strange noises when cold six months after I first got it at around 57k miles. I got the fluid changed & all was cured. Just last year, got another fluid change at around 85k miles & now on 90k with no further noises or issues.
