I thought I'd try here but I think I already know the answer (hgf)....

Driving around town normally temp is fine. Hit the A roads for a little while and sometimes the temp will rocket right up to the red, slow down and it'll drop back to normal. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't.

Radiator pipes are fairly solid both top and bottom. It has been bled a few times as per land rover manual with still no joy.

When up to normal operating temp the cap from expansion tank can be removed and lots of coolant will be ejected. A lot more than normal it seems.

It has had a new water pump, new coolant, new p gasket, and new hoses.

I am going to do a bromothymol blue test at the weekend to see if exhaust gasses are getting into coolant. But from the bubbles and volcano effect I am guessing this is the case.

It is not loosing coolant nor is it go the mayo effect going on in the oil.

I'll report back once test is completed but rock hard hoses are giving me the shivers :(

Block test bromothymol blue test is showing negative so no exhaust gas in the coolant.

Hummmm.... thermostat next and the one way valve. It has been bled again this morning so will see if that improves tonight.

Drained the dam thing completely today, flushed out rad and heater matrix with a dishwasher tablet. Filled up again as per RAVE and had no problems so far today with it getting hot but to be fair it hasn't been the warmest of days.

Will hold off on the thermostat for the moment and see what happens.

Right, picking back up on this. Thermostat was changed end of June. My brother was driving it yesterday. Hose joining onto side of the water pump burst emptying all coolant! Straight over the red. Had to be towed by police out the crossroads in which the event happened

Botched by cutting the end off and putting back on and yup! the hoses are pressuring up good and proper!!!

HGF I think for sure ;) This is backed up by slight loss of water over the last few weeks requiring a top up now and then.

Combine this with the other issues it has - I think this is the end of the road for the puppy :(

Head is easy to do. But sounded like you've caused it by the rad being blocked. (You said it wasnt loosing water and was hot intermittently)And I don't mean internally. I mean the airflow through it. I've had at least 4. All strangly red? That have needed rads. And intermittently overheated causing the head gaskets to go on at least 2 of those... ( then started to lose water)

Hope that makes sence. If you fix it. Check the rad basically lol.

Rad fins are clean. This bad boy is pressuring up like a pressure cooker ;)

Still - not to worry. Collected a TD5 is perfect working order today. Well chuffed!
