200 tdi brake problem

I've been having a problem for a few weeks now with my brakes on the Disco.
When i'm at low speed my brakes seem as though they are at low pressure and i have to push hard on the pedal to make the car stop?? any ideas??

sounds to me like vacuum trouble with servo? i'll have a think on and let you know if anything else comes to mind wingy

I was thinking the same ,might even be your brakes needing bled " A POSSIBILTY "

Hi all.
I have seen similar problems to this before,i'm sure this is a vacum problem.
Take a look around under the bonnet and check all the vac pipes around the brake system. The rubber hoses have been known to perrish and break away, so this would be my first check.

Ok and cheers lr4ever. I have taken a look and i think i have a pipe missing!
There is a pipe that goes from the brake servo to the vac pump and in it there is a t piece with nothing connected????????
I have plugged it and they now work ok, but surely something must go there.
Could another disco owner maybe have a look under their bonnet for me? (go on Beastie you know you want to hehe). It must go somewhere!

Wingy did you ever get the brakes sorted out !!!! that T piece that you spoke about are you sure thats not to do with the ABS brake system maybe ? if you had it

Have no ABS Beastie, not sure where it should go, i gonna have another look today

Maybe this can help.

I have seen several things connected to the Vac pump.
An airco valve
Some heather systems are vac operated
Maybe there was(is) a vacuum gauge connected there
And one that I do not think is possible but you never know and that is that you had (have) a vac operated centre difflock or an after market difflock.

Thanks for that MtheG and welcome to Landyzone i will take another look under the bonnet in them areas later in the week if i get the chance.

Hi the small pipe from the te piece goes to a vacuum reservoir right next to the heater. This vacuum chamber provides the force to open and close the fresh air vent from the heater control panel.

just fitted the following to my mk 1 disco 92 2.5 tdi manual.
2 front discs/
copper brake pipes and fittings/
brake pads/
4xsprings/
4xshock absorbers/
2xshock absorber turret rings/


NOW! my brakes are crap?, bleed till i used enough fluid to run a battleship.
pedal goes half way down (with slow creep)then stops rock solid?,
pump and they come up and are ultra efficient,

fitted a brake servo check valve?
and servo service kit,


this all means i am scared now to drive the thing in case they fail
and especially when i take my grand children in the thing


only things i havnt changed are: 1/complete servo replacement
2/ vacum pump service kit/ and or/ replacement


can anyone help please

Possible master cylinder, even if it was fine before you started the new new movement/travel of the piston in the master cylinder bore causes the seals to fail/not seat properly.

thanks first of all to everyone that has tried to help?.
found the problem?
here it is:?
rear brake pads to low and carbonising of the brake dust on the discs
i cleaned the discs
and replaced the rear pads
apparently?
the pistons had to far to travel?
(GO FIGURE)
just tried it and pedal is right on the top when you apply brakes
once only?
stops on a dime as they say
