Wife bought me a 2000 110 Defender for my birthday!

Low point so far (after 3 days of ownership) - got flat tire - jacked up - took wheel off - and rolled off the jack and hit the deck. I'm sure i had the handbrake on as it only rolled back a couple of feet. Rather embarrassing call to the AA - apparently it happens all the time !!!- hopefully no major damage done!

High points - tows my RIB like a dream and great for launching and recovery

Also - searched this forum to work out why it was max out at <70mph. Stuck waste gate actuator - fixed today with load of WD40 and a pair of mole grips - not bad for someone didn't even know what one was until 3 days ago! Tested it - and got up to 80 mph! Thanks for the great info.

Just need to work out what the clunk is when changing gear now.

Cheers!

Remember to put Difflock in and it locks BEFORE you put the handbrake on and jack up will stop it rolling off. I guess it was a rear wheel you took off?

Welcome anything you need just ask!! J

Thanks - will get some photos over the weekend! She is a lovely white one!

It was a front wheel. Wrote off the jack though - I think it was an original LR one fitted into a hole on the front of chassis - any suggestions for a replacement?
I'll remember the diff lock thing next time thx.

I'll learn to love the clonk then - or just change gear more smoothly :)

I made the same mistake too.
Tightening wheelnuts on the OSF wheel.
wheel turned forwards, car rolled backwards off the bottle jack.
serves me right for using a b***ard bar with a wheel in the air.
fortunately for me the wheel was on well enough so just torqued it up.

never had that problem with the Series 3, practically rusted to the drive anyhow!
...vertical learning curves, eh!

Very vertical learning curve for me! Landy going vertically downwards :)

Bought a couple of wheel chocks from Halfords for the future!

Next job is to find a center seat to replace the Cubby box - Kids moaning that there is not one!

Finally worked out how to upload pics

Roof rack came with it - bit noisey above 50mph. It bolts down to the front higes and similar on back so assume it is designed to take some load. Yup my boat in the background - I'll put up photo of it fully loaded with kids boats on top.

Good oppie spotting! Not a coach - just have 3 kids sailing oppies + 1 being transported for a friend. On the way up to Grafham water for the inland championships. About 250 kids out on the water last weekend - great to see them all out and active.

check your props for play in the u j that could be causing the clonk when you change gear.buy your self a grease gun a put some in the props

Had a quick check on the A frame ball joint but looked OK. No movement. UJ's seemed OK. There was a lot of play in both prob shafts though about 30-45 degrees rotating - is that normal???

Given up on the clonk for the moment and have a look at the MAP sensor (pic here - http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f50/dirtly-pictures-map-sensor-225654.html )
Cheers
Tim

When you checked the U/J's did you do it with the box in nuetral and the handbrake off? Wheels chocked of course

Rotational play is not so much an issue, what you are looking for is any play between the yokes (try wobbling from side to side and up and down) and any play in the sliding joints

Neutral - handbrake off - wheels chocked :)
no pay at all on the sliding joints and nothing side to side and up and down - all looks good.
