TD5 - would a completely straight-through exhaust be too noisy?

Flirting with the silly idea of putting a straight through exhaust pipe on my TD5 90. It doesn't sound bad at all with just the small rear box on, but has anyone got any experience of having no boxes on at all?

Is it biblically noisy?

Cheers!

I would think twice before messing around with the exhaust system. I recently replaced the tail pipe on my 200 tdi which was rusted through in several places. It now has a bit more speed on the top end and a bit more MPG.
Some time back I changed the exhaust system on a Honda VFR 750 motor bike with a two into one system. It never went as quick as before. It fissiled out at 130mph All the experts tried tuning it. In the end I reverted back to the original system and got back to 155mph.

i got a custom straight through stainless steel exhaust with 2.5" side exit, at low revs sounds normal but when foot down yes its loud.

Take the silencer off to find out, put it back on if you find it noisey, diesel is different to petrol regarding performance tuning mikescuba
+1. Take the back box off and se if you can live with it. The turbo will kill a lot of the noise. Diesels, especially turbo diesels, dont need or want any back pressure from the exhaust and and run better the shorter and more free flowing the exhaust is. Any apparent turbo lag will also reduce as the turbo will spin up quicker. Petrol engines however are a whole different can or worms.

Bike engines are notorious to get right and the manufacturers go to extreme lengths to get the factory exhausts delivering max power. Its not often an after market exhaust will make any improvement, other than weight saving, and more often than not will make things much worse.

i have removed my back box and made a side exit.and like above it sounds the same on tick over but has a bit of a bark when your foot is down
