hi all

anyone know of suppliers and problems i should look out for in fitting 4 point harnesses to the rear seats in my 90 csw? at present, i have no belts at all, and am loath to put the kids in lap belts only. 3 point inertia reels seem pointless in side facing seating, and decent harnesses seem the only logical way to keep everyone in back where they should be.

many thanks

Struy there's an artical on this in this months " june " issue of the landrovers owners international mag. it's for the series 1 but might give you some sort of help.

ps any word on the roof rack ???

i'll go check. however, i've already put lap belts in the rear.

i looked to every possible source to get best advice on that also, inc' landrover themselves, dealers, aftermarket suppliers, specialist LR garages and even a local conversion workshop. i had three options - 1st was to buy a kit of various brackets (not cheap) which you piece together (it allowed the belts' anchor points to put the load onto the chassis/ stressed members); 2nd was to see if the current td5 spec' retro-fit kit would fit (nobody could tell me for sure - and i tried EVERYWHERE. oh the frustration i felt standing at dealers' parts desks!). it is essentially a tube which runs behind the seats just above the wheelbox. it too requires additional bracketing, and tho cheaper than the 1st, was still a guy expensive experiment. so, i did what i think everyone else does....and bolted via large spreader plates (independently secured, painted, and a layer of silicon between them and aluminium body) onto the wheelboxes.

i checked with my local MOT station - it may or may not be passable - so i'll hedge my bets and simply unbolt before it's test is due. some engineers said it would be fine, a few didn't, but all that i spoke to agreed that using spreader plates would be as secure as anything.
