I have a really good Fender :D

She is used and abused, and she never lets me down! :p

OK, one or two bits occasionally wear out or break and need replacing, but she is over 20 years old, and with very little work, she has sailed through every MoT since I got her, apart from this year when she needed the Panhard bushes replacing!

As I said earlier a Disco is a Bratmobile Mummyvan designed for the school runs! ;);)

Dont worry bout mileage. You can get a replacement engine when it goes for a few hundred (disco) and swop manifolds. Do it yourself in a day with help. They keep going anyway so still got few years in it yet

Thans for the input. I have £4k to spend tops really which prob isn't enough for a decent defender.

They do come up, they're like rocking horse ****, BUT look everywhere, not just e-blag like a lot of people, and be prepared to travel, it does happen that people just don't know what they;ve got. They think it's a tatty old Land Rover, and not worth much:eek::eek::eek: Doesn't happen very often, but it does happen;);)

You'd be surprised. Should buy you something perfectly ok. I got a 1984 90 with a td for 2300 then converted it. Only paid the money cos it looked tidy. The rest you can sort. Main things are chassis and bulkhead. Check in footwells for any stray flakes of rust. Check under for oil loss, big pool may be a problem. Few drips is standard.

Check the rear cross member ( bar across the back and all connected parts) because replacing can be costly.

Everything else is fixable

Make sure its got a TDI engine in it! other wise you will be paying out to convert it!

I spent an hour and a half looking at the chassis on mine (so much so that I missed a few other areas I should have looked at)

Go and look at bloody loads of landys before you buy one and keep walking away if they aint right!
