hi there after a little advise lookin at buyin a disco 2 td5 seen a few very high mile ones for sale 180-200k should i stay well clear or isnt it a problem my budget would prob buy a better 200 or 300tdi disco 1 but prefer the later disco's

Milage covered isn't as important as how well its been looked after,a low milage uncared for Disco could be in much worse nick than a well maintained high miler

when i was changing mine from a 2000X reg, i looked at loads, went to look at a 54 plate 70k , What a rust bucket!!! mine on a 2000 x was better and half the money, so miles don't matter, age neither really, CHASSIS, HEAD GASKET and rest of mechanics, if all ok and no rust you will be nearly ok, but don't forget, 04's now 9 year old!!

Mines done 170K, good thing about that mileage is most of the important parts have been changed.

Mind my mum and dad owned mine for 5 years prior to me getting it I know everything they have done to it, and the history prior to them buying it is very good.

Althou rust has bitten a few places now, nothing major but the steering guard has taken the brunt of it.

I sold my D2 recently with 227 K on the clock - having bought it a few years ago with 166 K done .
It was still running/driving as well as ever and everything still worked - but the cost of road tax over here meant it had to go .
As pointed out the way the Disco has been maintained is crucial - and the D2 doesn't seem to be as prone to rust as the D1.

Mechanically DI & DII are both very strong and can take a lot of abuse & high miles without any real issues.

I've bought several at 160-165000mls and not had any issues with them at all. Of course as soon as I get them home they get serviced to within an inch of their lives, all fluids; all filters; discs & pads back and front; grease her up etc etc.

My only advice is check the rear chassis carefully for rust on a DII and DON'T PAY TOO MUCH for one.
