Over the last few days the drivers side electric window has been making some strange noises. When pressed to go down it sounds like its grinding noise then slowing moves the window down and the same thing happens to go up.

I opened up the door cover today to take a look and when I tried to lower it it sounded even worst, like a grinding mincing noise, like something was being chewed up. I could see what looks like a green cable moving in the top right hand corner where there is a clip that grips the window. When i tried to operate the window to go up It then went on to make a different noise like a motor running noise but with no movement at all. Iv managed to manually pull the window up so it seals but nothings happening now except the noise of a motor.

Any ideas?

Its very difficult to see exactly what is going on inside because access is so limited

Yep time to buy the cable kits they do on ebay and rebuild it , Cheap & easy job to do .

Mines done the same. Are them eBay repair kits any good? I know they're only About £12 do won't lose anything but how easy are they to fit?

The motor is fine and can hear same noises as the o.p described.

Its more of a fiddle rather than difficult. Take carefull note of how the origional is routed. Take a photo if you can to refer to, you will think your doing it wrong as the cable is really tight.

hi i had a similar grinding sound to the window, i took the door card off and brought the replacment kit off ebay for around £15. so i changed the cable and the plastic parts that come with it. it was installed correctly but the only problem is the grinding sound still happens???? anybody got any suggs as im at a stand still with it. thankyou

Mr Bullock....... Introdoce yourself it's common courtsesy on these ere forum's.........
People will be far moe willing to give you advice if you do. ;)

when you have fitted the new wires or the full kit put them back in you door and do not tighten the bolts fully leave them a bit slack then wind the window upto the top so it sits nice in the frame then tighten it all up and all will be well hope this helps

Hi, new here as I've only just got my freelander. I've changed the cable in my window and I still get the crunching sound. I did make the mistake of tightening everything first. Would it be best to strip it all out and check everything is ok or could I get away with just looseningit off then doing as said above.

Sounds like your new cables are damaged as you have to be very careful when refitting the cables and they are kept very tight and not twisted at all. If they become twisted as soon as you power the regulator up it will damaged the new cables. If the new ones make a grinding sound they are usually u/s.

I replace many of these and make the new cables up myself for all types of vehicles from marine grade stainless steel as I have the correct crimp on ends and crimping tool.

Good luck
