Hi there lookin for some help I've got a series 3 2.25 petrol it's got an electronic ignition so no points to worry about what's the best way to time this engine I've got a strobe light ready I've searched the net and on here and found so many different answers would like someone to shed some light on my problem

Oh and what I should set it too aswell please

Haynes manual reckons the centrifugal advance comes in at 450RPM so it will be advanced somewhat at idle. If you can get it idling at 500 RPM with vac advance off you might be able to predict its only a few degrees advanced and time it accordingly on the strobe.

Mine must be idling around 750 to 950RPM (I can't be sure) and with vac advance hooked up it sits at about 12 degrees on the strobe. It runs nicely and doesn't pink or anything. So I'm guessing (really guessing) that its around 6 deg static:confused:. Try a few settings and drive it to see if it feels right.
