hi guys

ive recently overhauled the fuel tank in my series 2 2.25 petrol. ive bought a new fuel sender from bearmach and the new one differs in that the resistance/sliding bar and live terminal is located inside the tank, unlike the original which was located on top of the tank outside, away from any contact with the petrol.

is this safe? surly live open electrical connections are not a good idea in the petrol tank? or am i being paranoid here.

you thoughts and comments would be welcome.

Had similar thoughts myself when doing this stuff...been told, not sure how true, that there is so much vapour and so little air that it won't "go off" if there is a spark but vapour leaks _from_ the tank / carb are a bit more dangerous....having said that under the bonnet of a carb'd car often stinks of petrol when it's been stood warm and there's a nice open dissy full of sparks and I've not seen one explode yet....

The 747 that exploded just after leaving New York (about the time of the Atlanta Olympics) did so from a fuel tank sender fault but could only happen as it only had dregs in which made the right air/fuel mix. Blew it in half.
