Rear door internal chequer plate

Guys, just bought the Rebel 4x4 internal chequer plate kit for a Defender 90 rear door. Looks well made but as I'm a bit new to all this just wondered if there are any fitting tips from bitter experience? I've done a few searches on here but can't find anything. If anyone has before and after pics that would be excellent. It's my weekend project and I'll take pics as I'm doing it then if I cock it up you can learn from my stupid mistakes, or just generally take the pee!!

Snap! They are well made aren't they!

I have just spent all afternoon fitting mine.

I had to cut a wee bit out of my panel as the replacement door I fitted has a sort of bracket bit below the lock/handle on the inside.

I used Rivnuts on the door frame with M5 cap screws (borrowed from work) to hold mine on. When I get round to running the wires in for the rear heated screen it should be a doddle to remove and refit.

I also lined the inside of mine with a layer of closed cell foam aka camping mat to give it a bit of insulation. I stuck the mat on with silicone sealant.

I can post pics tomorrow if wanted?

Yes please!!!

Thanks for the tip about rivnuts and insulation, any pics really appreciated, I'll post some of mine when I've finished which hopefully might help someone else.

My old door was pretty much held together by the chequer plate the previous owner siliconed/tek-screwed on. The frame was so rotten it had broken in a couple of places. When I eventually removed it to fit the new door I reckon I could almost have folded it in two like a sheet of cardboard if it weren't for the ali plate on the inside!
 
Just be aware when buying there are different fitments to rear doors. Check around door lock and wiper motor.
 
Okey dokey, first little hitch. There,s a plate on a bracket fixed to the door just below the lock. I guess it's a sort of heavy duty striker plate that helps to take the weight of the spare wheel when the door is closed. The Rebel chequer plate doesn't allow for this so I guess it's hacksaw time, problem is, the supplied lock cover won't fit properly now. Anyone :confused::confused:

Aha, if I'd have looked at jai_landrovers pic above I could have simply said mine looks like his!!
